I still don't understand why we haven't seen Mason Williams

I think you will find that Williams range in CF is no  where near what Broxton offers.  Williams has played a corner  OF spot most of the season because Mullins has more range in center.    Broxton probably has more range than Mullins.

While the numbers suggests Williams wouldn't cover as much ground as Broxton (Broxton is elite defensively by the numbers), it's not like he's slow out there. Williams was playing corner vs center because both Mullins and Hays are better overall prospects who are given the priority play.

An outfield of Hays, Santander and Stewart would be interesting to watch.

Give it about a month.

I agree, we'll see this before the year is up, hopefully in August.

I think he was saying "Give it about a month (and see how "interesting" you think it is then), but maybe I read it wrong.

That said, I don't think Elias will bring Hays up any earlier than September call-ups if then. He seems to have a strict system in place and is not interested in winning games this season. Hays must meet their standards before he is promoted to the majors and he's only had 61 ABs at the AAA level; 15 games. I doubt he is brought up so soon, but anything is possible I guess. If he is brought up, it won't have anything to do with trying to win more games or field a better team. It will be because they have decided he is ready based on their system which is probably not the same as the system many on here are going by. He's been hot since coming off the DL which is great, though. He's certainly helping his cause and I hope he can keep it up.

I’m a huge Hays fan, but agree Elias will probably be in no hurry to bring him up.   He’s only played 15 games of AAA, 5 since his hamstring injury.    If he’s raking a month from now, perhaps it gets interesting.

If Villar goes and Wilkerson comes back to the infield this would make sense (it does either way, but they seem content to stay put at this point).

I still wonder if Stewart would be called up first, but there is the CF need.  Although if they think Broxton/Wilkerson are doing well enough maybe we'd see a Reinheimer/Jace Pederson instead.

Hays would definitely be the player I'm most excited to see though.  Maybe some could argue Mountcastle, but we've been teased by Hays so long, it would be lovely to see him bust out in the bigs.

I've been watching Williams play RF in Norfolk and he does a pretty good job over there. Probably a step down defensively from Broxton in CF since Broxton is actually one of the best defensive CFers in the game, but I wouldn't mind seeing what Williams could do.

Broxton seems like a first class guy, but he really is quite the zero with the bat and is clearly not part of the future. williams may not be either, but I'd be willing to see what he looked like.

Yeah even if he is as bad as Broxton at least it will be making an effort at changing things up. Broxton is 29 and strikes out in half his at bats.  Mason Williams most likely will hit better than Broxton

What reasoning are you using to come to that conclusion?  He didn't in AAA, by 82 points of OPS.  He didn't in AA by 168 points.  He didn't in high A by 44 points.  Why would he in the majors?

He has to. Lol. I mean he will make contact and maybe end up on base by accident more than Broxton right now.

He does have a .289./325./396./721 in an even 200 ML PAs, so that's not nothing.

I am basing it on the last two years.  Broxton Struck out 40 percent of the time in the PCL last year. He just can't hit.

Williams has never had an extended everyday opportunity above AAA. And his stats this season in a notoriously tough park to hit are pretty solid. I’d trade a little more contact for a little less range in CF. Williams has always been an athlete, so, unless there is some other reason behind the scenes, I’d like to see what he can do. He may have a ceiling of a solid 4th OF, but I will take that.

He never got an extended everyday opportunity above AAA because he OPS'd .725 in over 1200 AAA PAs.  You don't usually get promoted until you've done well at the preceding level.

While that is certainly valid and fair, he was a one time top 100 prospect and had to overcome shoulder surgery and a few other things. So, maybe there’s a 4th OF there. Won’t know until he gets a chance.

Some have mentioned Hays coming up. While I think We’d all love to see Hays play I do have a question....

If this season is a waste why would they bring up Hays and use up more of his service time? Doesn’t it make sense to just let him finish the season in AAA?
