The Orioles seem to be doing things right. Analytics look like they're finding there way into every crack and crevice of the organization.

OPS what a novel concept,  if that is the best they have got.

Who knew that a double was better than a single and a walking a lot was good.  Man they are real geniuses.

Gotta start somewhere for the fans.    I have to say, the Post routinely cites OPS+ and WAR in its baseball columns, and sometimes ventures further than that.

I appreciate the effort to engage and educate the fans about how we value our players.  It's such a welcome and stark contrast from Buck, Dan, et. al.

Everyone already knows this.  Slugging percentage and OBP have been around forever.  Everyone knew Reggie Jackson was a great baseball player even though his lifetime average was .262.  Plus so many people play fantasy baseball.  This is condescending stuff.  Tell us something we don’t know.

Why would anyone complain about this?

We've waited decades for the Orioles to catch up with early 21st century analytics and sports technology. We are literally starting from ground zero. If the FO wants to do a series of videos that encourage fans to understand the change in player evaluation and tactical development, what could possibly be the downside?

I've long maintained the Orioles desperately need to market themselves better in the region. This is an excellent first step at diminishing the bizarre secretive nature of the Orioles FO.

Hope they keep this up.

I don't think BA is useless at all. It's incomplete and not as significant as it once was, but not useless. It's hard to hold a .300 BA. Most of Ichiro's hits were singles. Getting 200+ hits in a season isn't useless and it's fun to see hits.

They really don’t. The average attendees of a MLB game could not tell you what OPS even stands for.

For real.

Just look at the average fan's reaction to the Cashner trade.  Plenty of people still live and die by ERA, BA, wins, etc.

But they do stand up just as the ball is hit .They are  at the game to eat, take selfies. Wave to each other from 10 sections over. The most important thing is the Hot Dog race and Crab shuffle.
