  1. So you didn't pay much attention to the 2023 season, when the Orioles won 101 games? And now you are going to fly in with really obvious advice, which is to spend money on pitching? Who are you spending it on? How long of a contract are you going to give to a pitcher? Have you seen Kyle Bradish pitch? How about Grayson Rodriguez? What are your thoughts on Tyler Wells? Do you think DL Hall can be made into a starting pitcher? Oh wait you haven't watched so you'd have no idea. Cool.
  2. I most appreciate that he made a sincere effort to win a World Series in the 1990s. The Orioles had one of the highest payrolls in baseball in the late 1990s, and they got to back-to-back ALCS as a result. I also appreciate that he and his family had a genuine commitment to Baltimore and were willing at times to go against the other owners, such as during the 1994 strike.
  3. To be honest, I'd rather sign Paxton than trade for Cease, if Cease requires giving up a lot in prospects. A rotation of Bradish, Rodriguez, Kremer, Means, and Paxton makes a lot of sense when you have Tyler Wells and DJ Hall potentially waiting in the wings. At this point, I don't expect the Orioles to spend much money. I trust the front office to find good arms on a budget. What most interests me heading into 2024 are the players that are already in the organization. Last year the consensus was that the Orioles had blown the chance to take a step forward. Well, we won 101 games and a lot of the players that people wanted us to sign ended up being busts (such as Carlos Rodon). I trust Elias to put the best possible team on the field. I'm not going to get worked up over somebody like Dylan Cease.
  4. Stop talking. 35,000 posts and you never contribute anything of even slight interest.
  5. It's not a crime, just like it's not a crime to suspend a broadcaster for saying things that are factual. Whether or not it is a crime is not the issue that we are dealing with here. I'm talking about things that are wrong, not criminal. And I stand by what I said. Now, as I said above, I'm done talking about this story.
  6. I have a different perspective on all this today. The more I think about it, the more it bothers me that someone like Michael Kay or John Sterling would speak out about this. They literally work for a franchise that doesn't allow players to grow facial hair, and that still requires forced displays of patriotism at all home games. Those are infinitely worse crimes than what the Orioles have done to Brown. The other thing is, it feels like every now and then, the baseball industry likes to have a go at the Orioles. Everybody is quick to jump on the bandwagon of trashing the franchise. More often than not, the franchise deserves it, but I think the pile-on is shaped in part by the fact that the Orioles are seen as an easy punching bag. If it was a richer franchise, the criticism would not be quite so vocal or loud. So, in other words, I'm done with this controversy. Brown will be back in the booth in a couple days. Angelos is an idiot, but I'm not joining in on the collective freak-out anymore.
  7. I'm still having a hard time believing that everything was fine with Brown until this incident and then he was indefinitely suspended. The reason I have a hard time believing it is because, if true, then the owner of this team is not just petty, not just tone-deaf, not just (to borrow another poster's term) a scumbag. No, if this story is true exactly as reported, then the owner of the team is *insane*, stupid on a level that goes well beyond baseball or anything that you could say about 100 other owners who have been bad at their jobs. If this incident is the entire reason they suspended their lead broadcaster in the heat of a pennant race, then there is nothing left for anyone to say. The team is being run by an imbecile. I'm talking Marge Schott minus six. If that's who we are dealing with here, then there's no point in arguing about it or telling the Orioles what they should do or anything else. No one should even reply to this thread anymore, because if the owner happens to come across it, either he will be incapable of reading it, or will respond by building a new stadium made out of graham crackers. If this story is true, then if I was Angelos's doctor I would get him in for a court-ordered psychological assessment immediately.
  8. The thing is, this Angelos story isn't even about whether or not he's a scumbag. What's being reported isn't just petty or mean. It's bizarre, insane. It makes no sense on any level I can think of.
  9. I still feel certain there is more to it than what is being reported. I cannot believe that Angelos was absolutely fine with Brown and then this happened and he got suspended indefinitely. Something else is going on here. Of course, what that something is probably makes Angelos look just as stupid and petty.
  10. I'm glad someone started this thread because I've been wondering where Brown has been. He's their best announcer and it's noticeable when he's not there.
  11. I have a hard time believing that such a comment could be the primary cause of an indefinite suspension. It must have been the culmination of something else.
  12. Something like vertigo is difficult to even talk about. I get migraine headaches that put flashing lights in my vision, that go in and out every few minutes. They can go on forever. It's difficult to even describe to another person and early on you often hope it will just go away. I imagine something like vertigo would be like that. You think you can try to play through it, until you can't. So I don't think it's irresponsible; but just difficult to convey to others and to predict how it will impact you.
  13. Right now I am enjoying how complete and complementary our position player roster is. Some were ready to kick dirt on Mountcastle's grave a few weeks ago. I'm glad to see he can still be a major part of our offense, along with O'Hearn.
  14. Maybe you only meant position players, but if we had Gerrit Cole we'd probably be favorites to win the World Series.
  15. It was fine. I think getting more would have forced us to dive deeper into our prospect depth than most here would have been comfortable with.
