  1. And Friday is supposed to be nice. There’s really no reason they should try and force it. If Friday looked crap I’d say might as well try to play.
  2. Probably because 3rd base John was impossible to negotiate with. I suspect Rubenstein continues with the concerts. That sort of thing can make the area a 365 attraction I think he genuinely interested in making the area better. Sure he’ll make some money on it - but he’s not gonna try and squeeze every last dollar out of stuff like the Angelos’ did. Maybe he’ll buy the Hilton. That would be interesting….
  3. The ownership change will help a lot. Many people simply refused to support the Angelos family. I have an 81 game package that I divvy up - I’ve had more than a few new people inquire. I’ve effectively sold my seats - I’ve directed people interested to just get a season package. 2.45 million is my guess. 2.7 the following year.
  4. If that’s true….you could understand the apprehension given Carlyle and Ares are competitors to T. Rowe. Not that there’s bad blood between the groups but you could understand the hesitation.
  5. 1. I don’t believe the expectation is to become the dodgers, but instead be in a situation where finances aren’t a major constraint constantly whined about 2. Why should we expect this? David and Co are completely different than Peter. Peter was a one trick pony attorney and still working feverishly when he bought the team because frankly he needed to. Rubensteins (and other owners) wealth is wildly beyond the Angelos and his success extends beyond his core business. His philanthropy is unparalleled and is highly respected amongst his peers. And not for being cheap. He’s shown her can compartmentalize a private equity skillset in a way Angelos never could. 3. I expect significant increases in revenue as changes are enacted. I’m getting constant questions about tickets from my friends - and only after the announcement.
  6. If they were 88 loss seasons, would that change your opinion?
  7. I really doubt Mayo is traded. He’s 21 and would’ve been a top 3 draft pick this year if he went to college. Ortiz is 25, Norby little younger at 23….but not 21.
  8. With the way the game is played these days, 4 guys who can all hit for 3 spots is what you want. So Mayo, Henderson, Holliday, Westberg is ideal IMO. Mayo can also mix at first. Some of those guys could also get spot starts in the OF. Ortiz probably becomes the true utility guy if he’s not traded.
  9. Effectively stuck a fork in their season tonight. They are now 6 games out of the WC.
  10. They may have assessed that he has 15-30 more innings in him. The plan very well could be give him a few innings the last week of the season to see how it goes and then playoffs. As others have stated, having surgery now vs end of October really isn’t going to impact his readiness for the 2025 season. But 2024 isn’t happening.
  11. Of course you aren’t going to run for adley…or anyone in the third. But some of the most famous playoff moments in history involved stolen bases. If anything, what the team lacked in 2014 should provide some consideration on why team speed is important. And I’m no fan of Mateo - he has completely underwhelmed at SS this year. But we’ve gotten this far with him - might as well stick it out for a couple more weeks. He rounds out the teams’ skill set. Ortiz just duplicates what we already have.
  12. In the regular season, doesn’t really matter. But there are a lot of times you need a stolen base in the playoffs. A lot. Rosters expand to 28 in less than a month - i don’t think it’s that big of a deal to “waste” a spot for a few more weeks to provide that optionality in October.
  13. I think the Nats have effected the premium spend more than anything. Not necessarily straight attendance. DC based firms who used to get Orioles tix switched to the Nats. Also the area around OPACY has significantly deteriorated. Harbor area is awful. Very few options to get food before or after the game without a 20 minute walk. Even the Hilton’s diamond tavern is closed. Yeah the pickles area is going strong but that doesn’t appeal to everyone. Hopefully Angelos has this in mind as part of the new lease. Remember he really likes what the braves have done.
  14. This too. The “Fees” are ridiculous and they’ve effectively shut down (discouraged?) day of game box office sales….which don’t charge the fees. They used to have a “quick sale” stand for upper deck tix that made it incredibly easy if you weren’t overly picky about location. Back on the few thing…I sort of get it if there’s a “per order” fee of $5 or whatever. But the per ticket thing is just ridiculous.
