  1. From the reports of Means stuff, and the way Wells is pitching, I think Irvin is comfortably in our top 5 starters at the moment.
  2. Manny Machado was worth 7.5 rWAR in his age 22 season, Gunnar 6.2. I'd say he's in okay company and on a decent trajectory. I can understand a little bit more with Rutsch but Gunnar looks to me very much on the superstar track, and I wonder if he won't age a bit better than Machado has (Machado's age 24-27 seasons were relatively average minus his 2015 contract year), or follow a more traditional trajectory.
  3. Is Grayson's FB velocity a bit down? Or is it just the early season colder weather? Haven't seen any 99s that I can remember this season nor many 98s and he's more 95-96...
  4. Mateo, surely, no? I have no idea why Holliday would start tomorrow other than it being his t-shirt / home debut night but I doubt that factors much into decisions...obviously he can come in when Hall comes out.
  5. I think he was quite, quite unlucky yesterday. Between the ump and the homer coming after it, and the other runs coming on pretty soft contact / finding holes...for me he was much better than the stat line suggests.
  6. We haven't done too bad with Bradish and Grayson, it would seem.
  7. With how little Elias has shown me to convince me that he knows what he's doing, I'm definitely going to take this 9 game sample of of 5-4 baseball to start the season as evidence that he doesn't!!
  8. Interesting. That's a clever way to get Mayo and Kjerstad into the lineup.
  9. Is his curve really "not very good"? I always felt it was a pretty good offering and that it was a bit weird how little he employs it, but maybe I'm wrong--that would certainly explain why he hasn't used it as much!
  10. Chayce McDermott could become a factor in this conversation this season, too. Perhaps even Tyler Wells.
  11. Verrryyy early. He had an .666 OPS (appropriate number for a Yankee) in his age 22 season, Gunnar .814, so yeah, you know, SSS effects!
  12. His stuff looked good. For me a very promising first start. He was very good last season with worse stuff for much of the first half before getting injured / fatiguing. We forget that. Through about three months of the season there was an argument Wells was our ace more than Bradish. So excited to see how he does if he can keep this stuff throughout the season.
  13. Soooo true. The non-cherrypicked interview with Holliday is a 100% reasonable take.
  14. Cool to get big Jim's thoughts on it from you, cheers Roy!
