  1. Once the Orioles decide to set their 26 man roster I'll be ready to make a lineup prediction.
  2. Hope to see you guys in Baltimore today. That's where I will be.
  3. Storm seems to be heading north and east of us. Makes sense.
  4. *pushes glasses up* well technically the season started on March 20th. I'm with you in general though that March does seem too early. I don't want the WS creeping into November either though. Probably the easiest answer would be to reduce the number of games in the regular season.............but is there any chance the owners would go for that? Seems pretty unlikely to me.
  5. I just hope they announce everything by tomorrow. Pretty sure they did it 24 hours ahead of time last year.
  6. To be clear...... Burnes was brought in to replace Gibson for the most part. Now if Bradish throws essentially 0 innings this year and if Means pitches less than 23 innings this year than this pretty cynical take above becomes much more valid. And then I would certainly agree we need to add more arms to the rotation. And I would definitely be thrilled if we added someone like Montgomery right now obviously. If however they come back in April-May and throw a bunch of innings then all of a sudden this talk of one Cy young contender replacing another becomes nonsensical. Neither one of us can foresee exactly how it will play out..........but thankfully Bradish and Means have not suffered any additional setbacks so far.
  7. It depends if the young player is a potential HOF level elite talent or not. If yes.....then absolutely you try and extend him because no system is good enough to reliably be able to churn out a replacement on a consistent basis. If it's "just" a solid every day player like Hays, Mounty......etc.....then sure Elias should be confident in his ability to let him go and bring up a replacement.
  8. This is a pretty silly question (sorry, no offense intended) when we are literally 48 hours away from a new ownership group taking control. It is clear that the Angelos family didn't care for doing too many of these kinda deals. Although it's worth noting that Chris Davis sort of qualifies by your metrics (exactly 7 years, over 150M). I think it's pretty clear Elias and Sig wouldn't mind operating with a top 10 payroll in MLB instead of a bottom 3. But that is up to ownership. John Angelos would certainly never have approved something like that. But now we are on the cusp of getting a new owner with a net worth that is approximately double that of the Angelos family. Another wrinkle is that some of our top elite young guys are Boras clients so they will be much harder to extend on the kinds of deals you are talking about. Will we EVER sign a young player to a contract like that? I think yes. But who knows when.
  9. How many Cy Young Award winners would we need to add to our rotation for it to count as a "notable" upgrade?
  10. Overlooked in all the gnashing of teeth over Holliday right now............ Is that Elias also had a quote out today that he is 'hopeful' that both Means AND Bradish will be ready to go "early in the first half." First time I think Elias has been bold enough to tease a possible timetable for Bradish.
  11. Problem is the rules don't let you start 6 infielders yet. Westburg may very well be good enough to be an every day 3B or 2B or SS but we have other elite guys that are gonna challenge him for those slots. Either on March 28th or not long thereafter. So by this summer it is entirely possible he could be a "backup" for us by default right?
  12. Good news for Xfinity customers who don't want MASN! and hopefully good news long term for the death of the MASN monopoly. Which took another hit with recent Fubo announcement.
  13. They didn't enter 2018 intending to tank. But circumstances changed. So they sacrificed present wins for the future. I mean, i think you are factually wrong in saying I am factually wrong. At least you sorta kinda give me Bradish.....more than happy to take that. What I sincerely hope most of all..............is when we win the pennant in this year or next.........the very first thing you do is start a thread on here entitled, "Yes we won but it didn't have to be this way!"
  14. Top 10 players on the 2023 O's by WAR and how we acquired them. 1. Gunnar - high 2nd round pick in 2019 draft. (impacted by big sell-off in 2018......to me this is related to tanking but it's true that Elias didn't control what happened to 2018 team although he did control the 2019 draft) 2. Bradish - came back in 2019 Dylan Bundy trade. I would argue this was a pro-tanking move. 3. Adley - 1st overall pick in 2019 draft. Whatever you say about Gunnar would also apply here. Definitely related to tanking. If we don't pick 1st overall in 2019 maybe we don't get him. 4. Bautista - Acquired in 2016. Not related to tanking. 5. Santander - Rule 5 pick in 2016. Not related to tanking. 6. Mullins - Drafted in 2015. Not related to tanking. 7. Cano - Jorge Lopez trade in 2022 with the Twins. I would argue this was related to tanking. People definitely got a little upset with this move at the time. Granted not as much as the Mancini trade. But def related to sacrificing the present for the future. 8. Hays - Drafted in 2016. Not related to tanking. 9. Mountcastle - Drafted in 2015. Not related to tanking. 10. Urias - Waiver claim in 2020. Not related to tanking. So it's complicated. The top 3 players on the team came to the 2023 roster in part because we chose to sacrifice the present for the long term health of the organization. So did we win 101 because of tanking? Yes and no.....it's subjective to a degree admittedly. The majority of the players on that list did not come from tanking it's true. I think it's ALSO worth noting though that we didn't quite end up where we wanted to in 2023. And tanking is 100% related to why we were able to trade for Corbin Burnes and still have the top rated farm system in baseball. So I feel pretty comfortable in saying that although tanking may not have been the sole reason why we won 101 in 2023, it was absolutely a contributing factor...............AND.......... Tanking will be one of the main reasons why we win our next pennant and World Series.
  15. Have we heard any news on Bradish and his throwing progressions in the past several days?
