  1. 97 mph tonight with a bunch of sweepers. Sweeper = keeper. In all seriousness, the dude has a live arm. I could see him giving us a “Webb” type of run. Everyday Webby. Ramírez is out of options so he’s literally pitching for his job everytime out there. Honestly, I was banging the drum for us to sign one more vet reliever like a David Robertson, Ottavino, or Brasier, but there probably isn’t too much difference than Ramírez right now other than track record and salary. That’s a $5-$10 million security blanket that Elias didn’t think we needed.
  2. If ST tells us anything, it will be Suarez over Zimmerman. Suarez pitched 15.2 IP to Zimmerman’s 7.2 IP. So they must like him a bit more. Banuelos gets DFAd to make room for him. He was only added to roster last night because he was with the team and it was a reward. We basically plucked the bullpen catcher and added him. There was no reason to IL Wells yesterday other than to give Banuelos a moment. It’ll be a bizzare piece of O’s trivia years from now and possibly inspire a future handle.
  3. Ugh… I think the problems are that he’s 20 years old and two years removed from high school. Everyone wanted this dude up here. He’s batting 8th/9th. Now we just got to let him get a sample size and some ABs. Also, keep in mind that Jackson Holliday is a legit 20. He’s not Albert Pujols 20.
  4. Overall, O’Hearn was a very slick pickup. Getting him to agree to the $3 million team option for 2025 was a slick move as well. He probably shouldn’t play RF, but stuff happens over a long season and we may see that again. I think the bad feelings of the Crush Davis contract rubbed off a little on O’Hearn. Just similar looking players. He’s not blocking Kjerstad. Kjerstad is our Santa replacement. Stowers is just being blocked because he’s LH and he’s behind the other LH hitting OF types in the MLB.
  5. Yet another example of a why it isn’t the end of the world if a player has to be sent down. Bradish, Grayson, Cowser…. all went down and made cautious adjustments.
  6. Brown isn’t my favorite, but Gary Thorne isn’t walking through that door. Plus, I identify the recent winning with Kevin Brown’s voice. I just wish he wouldn’t have pulled his martyr stunt last year. Everyone has to listen to their boss.
  7. An .872 OPS with GG defense in CF. I’ll surely take that over 30 SB and trying to leg out/stretch out every ball in play. Cedric is a gamer. Cowser will help with his load management in CF. Keep those legs fresh.
  8. I’m a little surprised Hyde threw any type of expectations out there. Bradish must be feeling good.
  9. Impressive. This young team is really coming together. Everyone should keep Westburg, Cowser, Gunnar, Adley, in mind when worrying about Holliday. They had long stretches of “struggling”. The exit velos at the MLB level are impressive.
  10. Just a statement of how good this lineup is. Cowser will have a lot of RBI opportunities. With all the “starters” starting and Adley at Catcher, our 6-7-8-9 is Cowser, Mullins, Westburg, and Holliday. Also, the league is tough and I’m sure they will adjust to whatever has been working for Cowser so far.
  11. Good OP. Not worried. Remember that Cowser, Gunnar, and Adley, all struggled to some degree for being too selective when first called up. We’re a young team. The umps made our guys “earn it” last year and the team adjusted. I think this also shows how Elias, Sigbot, and Hyde coaching staff, are all not locked into one idea. They can adapt. Cowser and Westburg have benefitted the most so far. Hopefully, we’ll start to get some respect from the umps more consistently and we don’t have to be so aggressive. But for right now, it’s working.
  12. Won’t happen a lot. Mullins and Mateo ran wild last year in April, then both had injuries that lingered all season. Mullins is having a resurgence and Mateo has an .800 OPS. We aight. It’s probably only going to happen if Mateo pinch runs.
  13. I chalk it up to Facebook/twitter. Joey Ortiz was the first real darling of Facebook. People on those sites tend to overreact more so than here. It’s the whole “throw the bums out, someone else must be better” mentality.
  14. Here’s an example of why it isn’t the worst thing in the world if a player is sent down to work on things. Cowser. Bradish. Stowers and Kjerstad now. Cowser worked his butt off this offseason it looks like. Kudos to him and the coaching staff.
