  1. Good luck with the site as it seems like a cool concept.
  2. I may be in the minority, but I hope that Adley doesn’t DH a whole lot this season. I think if he catches 120 games and is able to maybe pinch hit I think that would be something that I would much prefer rather than having him play the majority of the games at either C or DH
  3. Are they expected to get the game in?
  4. I went back a dozen pages and didn't see it posted. If it has been, feel free to delete.
  5. To me, it's a simple thing. He DH's most days and gets some spot starts in RF too. The O's, however, seem averse to having a near full-time DH.
  6. Reasons for concern from various parties: Velocity, spin rate, and unnatural torque The pitch clock The baseball itself The sticky/tacky substances allowed or disallowed on the ball Each may play a role and should be investigated thoroughly, though it's likely that the first bullet point is the biggest contributor. Hopefully there are solutions found that can help alleviate some of these injuries moving forward, but implementation often takes time.
  7. I get that this comes up in various threads, though it's not all in one place. So, if you were calling the shots, which positional player(s), if anyone, gets moved (traded/released, etc...) and who gets brought up? You can note the option to wait until the end of the month for service time reasons, naturally. Again this is not intended to be a discussion about what what Elias will/won't do, but rather what YOU would do. Key: *=Lefty bat, #=Switch-hitter, and ages as of opening day are in parentheses My thoughts are presented here, but what are yours? 1B: Mountcastle (27.1) 2B: *Holliday (20.3) AAA (I would not play service time games with players. His D at 2B needs improvement but it won't be a detriment to the team, and he'll eventually be a strong defender there by season's end) SS: *Henderson (22.7) 3B: Westburg (25.1) (He's decent at 3B, but it's not ideal to play him here. But until Mayo can handle 3B, Westburg gets the bulk of his AB's at 3B. Unless dealt, Westy could become a super utility type if deposed by Mayo) CA: #Rutschman (26.1) LF: *Cowser (24.0) (It's time) CF: *Mullins (29.5) RF: #Santander (29.4) DH: *Kjerstad (25.1) (IMHO HK may never be a good enough defender at 1B or RF to play there regularly and could see the bulk of his time as DH. His bat is too good to stay in AAA) X: Urias (29.8) (Stays until Mayo's arrival, then dealt) X: Mateo (28.8) (Stays until a better speed player that can play solid D in multiple positions is acquired) X: Hays (28.7) (Will see 300'ish AB's as a reserve, spotting both Cowser and Mullins on occasion) X: McCann (33.8) Notables: *O'Hearn (30.7) (Traded) Mayo (22.3) AAA (Stays until his D at 3B improves. Even if he doesn't show he can be a solid defender at 3B, his bat is outstanding and will be the driving force in his MLB career, likely beginning by mid-season) *Stowers (26.2) AAA (Already 26, he's ready for the show, but unless there's an injury or two, I don't see a spot for him. He deserves his chance and will probably be dealt this season) Norby (23.8) AAA (If his defense were decent, he'd be a far better prospect, as he can hit and hit with power. I just don't see him as a fit here)
  8. I agree Newman is not good at her job and should be replaced. I've heard her three times and was quite unimpressed.
  9. Ah well, an RBI will suffice.
  10. Next pitch, Rutsch bomb... calling it.
  11. Ridiculous taking Cowser out of the game.
  12. Holliday needs more time to get acclimated to 2B. Mayo needs more work at 3B. Kjerstad needs a lot more time at 1B, though he may be a DH/RF anyway. Time will tell. Norby is trying to get acclimated in LF & RF. He's able to fill in at 2B but is below average there. I can't recall what defensive shortcomings Stowers has to work on, so I can't speak to that. This is not an attempt to disregard the team control factor, at all. It's just that defense is a factor that should not be dismissed in consideration of when the team feels these young men are ready to come up. Agree?
  13. I wouldn't be putting too much stock into spring performances. We see it every year and hear the same complaints from fans, "Player X doesn't look right," "... should be replaced," etc. Then the real games begin and things typically normalize. This doesn't mean some observations are invalid, but rather that most are soon forgotten.
  14. Rest in peace, Peter. My condolences to his family and friends and best wishes to them all moving forward.
  15. I've mentioned this idea before. While Holliday learns the nuances of 2B this season, a future move (next year or two) to CF could make sense as well. Again, not this year. Ideally, EBJ will be our future CF, but not all prospects work out. If EBJ struggles to hit, having Holliday able to fill that spot as Mullins moves on could allow Westburg regular AB's at 2B, while filling an important defensive position in CF. Versatility is important to the O's. Let him spend this season getting 2B down, but don't be surprised if during the Spring next season JH gets a few looks in center.
