  1. Source? Trust me bro or Just think about it?
  2. The analytics team that sends Hydes their lineup will consistently put AR and GH as 1-2. You give these special bats as many opportunities as you can. The old school 'typical leadoff" guy is going away in favor of actually statistical results.
  3. If you're looing for some more baseball on off days or times-check out IMG 15 mins away in Bradenton- some great prep baseball
  4. Infield wise- do we move or move on from Fraizer, Meteo and Urias? Replaced by Holliday, Ortiz and Norby? I'm just not sure we do that by opening day - we are not a start up any more.
  5. Clearly we have blast off and have opened the competitive window Thinking about the roster make up one year from now as we build upon the success of this season. Infield-best depth Mountcastle/ options in house are ok-Santander/O'hearn/etc-can Mayo or Kjerstad force their way? Westburg for me at 2nd Base Henderson at 3rd Holliday at SS-next August Ortiz is the back up MIF I like the idea of a vet infielder and would be ok with Frasier coming back. Norby for me is depth or a trade chip Catching AD McCann -comes back-buys time to see how Basallo progresses - decision needed by 2025 Outfield- I think this is a spot to add a free agent/trade Hays/Mullins/Santander all return Can a prospect take a spot? Lots of options but so far no one has knocked the door down-maybe it happens over the next year. Mayo/Kjerstad/Cowser/Stowers/Tavera/Fabian/Haskin- lots of options. Would love to see a trade or a signing Pitching A few aces (maybe) and a lot of mid rotation guys in free agency. Hall/Povich/Mcdermott -not sure they step up in the next 12 months for the 24' playoff push 2023 season certainly opened our competitive window and the guys are getting battle tested. However it ends we had great opportunity to evaluate our system. Now we need to step on the gas pedal to push us to the next level-
  6. It's the right move for this team at this time. Even heading into next year these prospects are going to need to kick the door down and force their way into the lineup. Mullins/Hays/Santander all return in 24'. Cowser didn't force the issue and struggled to make the jump. Stowers/McKenna/Vavra/Kjerstad -maybe one steps. up With our infield having plenty to sort through I feel like the outfield is a place we should upgrade heading in 24' via free agency (tough) or trade.
  7. I envision the long term goal would (maybe next summer- 14 months or -maybe spring 25') Ortiz 2nd Holliday SS Henderson 3rd I would like to see Ortiz get more and more reps at second this year So far this year Games by Position: 2B (4) 3B (3) SS (3) While I appreciate the value veterans bring- we can't expect to play all the rookies at once if we are competing year after year. Getting Gunner and Ortiz up to speed this year would be huge. I wish we could do the same with a Cowser/Westburg but that's a different thread. Next summer you hope you add a Holliday (might be a stretch)
  8. My son is a prep player and has been invited to various summer ball events (PBR/PG) Scouting Events (ECP/Area Codes) as well as direct meetings with MLB scouts/teams There is not a standard measuring approach. Some tell him they use his on-field size with spikes on and others make him wear only socks, some are just stated so every kid is an inch or two taller and weigh more.
  9. This echoes a lot of what you see in the baseball development world at the you/high school/ collegiate levels. Pitching side- everyone has a velocity program and velocity in prep/collegiate baseball is higher then ever. Command of multiple pitches is the hardest component. Every one wants the barrel to ball skill as the exit velocity can be attacked in the kitchen, weight room and rotational training, especially with over weight/under weight training. As a point of reference- Gunnar Henderson's exit velocity topped out at 93 mph 12 months before he has drafted. https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=460812
  10. How many of these Pre-Arb contracts were handed out to catchers? Can't see a very long contract handed out to such a demanding position.
  11. I feel like this is why we need to continue to demonstrate patience in 23'. We need another year to determine who are impact players in our system and who are the role players. It would only make sense to sign or trade for impact players at this stage in the rebuild. I do not feel like we should cash in our pipeline chips yet- I feel like we need another year on many of these guys to see what they can become. Signing better role players might block guys in the minors-especially in the outfield. If we can acquire impacts players then by all means do that- 1-3 SP or 1-4 hitter- regardless of position then sure. But does a Mancini type signing really help us win in the new window.
  12. How about we go further down the line and trade Mancini for Jackson Merrill- the Severna Park SS they drafted in the 1st round last year? https://www.milb.com/player/jackson-merrill-701538
  13. I guess I would like to see us land 1 'nugget' next FA period and then hopefully 2 in the following period.
  14. While 22' is certainly more competitive, we are not competing for the playoffs. 2023 is likely be another step but my guess is our competitive window is 24-28' Who is still around, who should be dealt, what do we look like? Catcher- should be set 1st-Mountcastle- turned 25 in 22'. 27-30- should be in his prime 2nd- Vavra? Move over one of the SS? Too early to tell on Norby and Prieto looks good early. SS- Could be solved in the farm system- Henderson, Westburg- 3rd-Likley to solved by one of the players above if they can't stick at SS, or Mayo. Outfield- do Cowser, Stowers, Kjerstad- all make it?? Diaz. Hayes will be 29 in the summer of 24'. Mullins, Santander- too old, too costly for that window? Arms- hardest part to tackle- pitching prospect are fragile. I feel like arms and infielders should be the focus on the draft, trades and free agency in the two years leading up the window. Outfield has the greatest potential to be solved from what we have now. Does that lead us to Jackson Holliday- a High School SS- do we go with Brooks Lee a College SS? Avoid the OFs due to our depth? Arms and Infielders Next year's SS Free Agents Shortstop: Tim Anderson (club option), Elvis Andrus (player option), Xander Bogaerts (opt-out), Carlos Correa (opt-out), Didi Gregorius, José Iglesias, Andrelton Simmons, Dansby Swanson, Trea Turner, Jonathan Villar
  15. Dan Connolly @danconnolly2016 Orioles, Angels attempting to hash out Cobb deal. Contractual situation is complicated, would need MLB approval. Source says Os will be getting at least one minor leaguer in return and Os will be paying more than half of Cobb’s $15M salary. Part will be present day, part deferral
