  1. Was that the d-bag who threw that beer at Kim that time?
  2. You have developed the ability to send 26 men up to a century back in time... and you're not going to take any opportunity that presents, except to send our baseball team back for an exhibition game? If any of you know Gurgi outside the board, please visit him and take his time machine keys away.
  3. To me, this isn't the question. The question is actually if what's still available out there is better than what we have, or if it's approximately the same, or worse. I don't think we need to add a body for the sake of adding a body. But if it's a clear upgrade over what we have, and that option isn't painful to get... then sure, go ahead and do it.
  4. Indeed. I mentioned the impact it would have had on our drafting... you only have to go back to 2022. We tied the D-backs for the league's worst record in 2021 and only got to draft in first position due to tiebreaker. Manny would have only had to walk off one extra win that season, and they'd have drafted Jackson Holliday (I have zero doubt he goes 1-1 to whomever had that draft spot) and we may have drafted injury-laden Drew Jones. That's an alternate universe that makes me sad.
  5. Machado is only 31, so there's still plenty of time for him to win a championship. He may end up with some regrets, however, if Baltimore wins one without him. Yeah, because we would have hit the same cornerstones of success had we been the ones to pay him 30 million a season *and* have him worsen our draft position with the three or four extra games a year we would have won. Plus, I'm sure he would have thoroughly enjoyed playing on the turd rebuild-tank teams we trotted out for three and a half seasons straight. Manny was great, but I don't think we'd be in the same place today had we kept him. So Manny won't have to regret anything if we win it all; it likely wouldn't have been the same team if he were on it.
  6. He made it an entire week and a half on our 40 man. What a legend.
  7. Considering he's been averaging about one team per week this off-season, I doubt he'd placed the call
  8. I'm honestly kind of amazed at the continued Adam Frazier talk... He was the exact template of the One Season Placeholder Player™: Filling in for a single year until another player (usually a AAA future-starter-guy wrapping up his minor league development) is ready to go the next season. He's hired in the hope that he be league-averagey (or hopefully a little better) during his sole season with the team... he often falls short, though sometimes he kind of makes it. Afterward, the transaction is complete. He signs with another team, and we never see him again outside the handful of times a year we play his new team. I'm not sure why the fascination endures. We have at least one of these guys on the roster every single season, including this one (I'm looking at you, Craig Kimbrel). He should be a wispy ghost of a memory now, yet we'll still be talking about him off and on for years to come.
  9. The 26-year-old Castillo has bounced from the D-backs, to the Mets, to the Yankees, to the Phillies and now to the Orioles all in the span of two months. At this point, he probably feels more like a ping pong ball than a baseball player.
  10. Regardless of how you view personal liberties, a lot of people find chewing tobacco and the accompanying spitting disgusting, and don't want to sit next to it at the game for 3 hours straight. And there's probably far more of those fans than there are tobacco chewers at the games (as the CDC reports that only about 2% of the population chews tobacco). So this makes perfect sense from the team's perspective as far as I can see.
  11. In leverage situations, perhaps. But that's not normally his job. He's an innings eater.
  12. Guess this ends the super-tiny sliver of a chance that he was the option we were considering for replacement bullpen power arm next season. I know it was like a 1% chance, but part of me is glad that it's now zero. Best of luck to him.
  13. Didn't read the whole thread, but I can't be the only one who doesn't want a Burnes extension whatsoever at what he's likely to be asking for, right? With the way others seem to be valuing our prospects, I'd rather keep the minors overloaded on more prospects that we have room for and just keep doing this on a regular basis as needed for a while. Instead of spending $40M+ per season on one pitcher, let's extend our established pool of young players for their best years on the run that we're about to have. That's where the money should go.
  14. I don't think that this is a trade that has any losers. For them, they get two guys who may shape up into big contributors for them, who had limited opportunities in our structure and needed new space to take their next steps. And for us, we get one of the best starters in baseball to join what is now a complete and deadly rotation. And this one isn't going to hurt as bad as, say, the Andrew Miller trade, where we lost a not-well-replaced, decent young starting pitcher for five seasons, to obtain a guy who threw fewer than 30 innings for us and barely moved the needle. These days, we have a stacked minor league system, a player development team that has most guys performing at max level, and now an owner who likely won't cheap out on us doing the things needed to absorb trades like this and stay healthy. This is a dream time to be a fan, and I'm hoping no one wakes me up.
