  1. Wouldn't you get as good of a deal now and not risk Cease getting injured or having a down season? If he gets hurt you would be back at the table again a year from now, but then he has less team control and is coming off an injury.
  2. With all of the talk about the Orioles only giving up high-level prospects for a TOR starter, how many #1/#2 starters do you think exist in MLB? I am also curious as to who you think those players are and what those players make verses the amount of team control left on those arms.
  3. Depends who is hurt or off the roster. Can't compare 2023 with 2024 unless everyone is healthy IMO. Are we a better team with them, yep. Should we spend that kind of money, not on Ohtani at $700M. But we could use a top 2-3 starter or two for sure and those guys cost a lot. Sooner or later we will need to go all in and we haven't shown the willingness to do that except for Chris Davis and we were all in against ourselves on that one.
  4. I am not a member, but how many players were above that bonus amount among infielders. Really hope the Orioles can nab a top pitcher.
  5. Why not do what every other major sport seems to do and just increase the number of playoff spots? Give the 2-4 best teams a first round bye or something. Let say MLB lets the top 16 teams in with 4 getting first round byes. If you can't finish in the top 16 you do not have any business being in the playoffs.
  6. Mussina was tough on the media, right? Didn't Angelos wait too long to offer him a contract? I can see why the media might have disliked Mussina, but I can also see why Mussina might have disliked ownership. And why do you need to be "the guy" if your team is the "the team" in baseball.
  7. If Seth Johnson wins a Cy Young it will be one of the best trades ever. I think that statement alone makes his comment just biased.
  8. Pop and Bass just netted the Marlins Jordan Groshans. Groshans is not having a good year, but still.
  9. I have a feeling that there has to be a PTBNL or something. Right now there are 10-12 GM's out there shaking their heads thinking that they would have given up more than that for a quality end of the pen guy.
  10. In back-to-back years the Orioles have allowed the pick I wanted them to select to go to the Arizona Diamondbacks (Lawler and Jones). I feel like Cowser was selected in part as an under slot selection, but I am not sold that is why Holliday was selected (even though we signed him a bit under slot). With the money we saved with Holliday, who did we select that required an over slot to be lured away from college? And as a second question, how does anyone in the know feel about those selections? I get the idea behind having more irons in the fire with guys with future talent instead of that #1 pick, but sometimes, I just want them to pick the player that everyone in the nation views are the can't miss prospect. I know Jones got hurt, but that was likely a freak injury verses a systemic one. I guess I find my myself dreaming of an Orioles program that included Henderson, Rodriguez, Lawler and Jones all in the top-10 of the top overall prospects in the game. The Orioles using someone like Lawler to headline the trade for an established star. With that said, I am still excited over our system and will wait for the outcome of the international signing period before I pass judgement.
  11. We need a true middle of the order bat. I think Adley's ability to work counts is a great early indicator to what type of a hitter he will be. I think he will be a #2/#3 hitter, but we strongly need a #4 and #5 hitter. It isn't going to happen, but man Soto would do wonders for our lineup. The good news is that the O's have a lot of free money moving forward although younger middle of the order guys do not seem to hit the marker very often.
  12. I think the best option may be to move bat and a reliever or Lyles in the same deal. That might get a decent return.
  13. I don't see it, but I guess anything is possible. Maybe Elias opens up the wallet seeing how the O's have performed this year. I love Soto as a player, but I think he walks for New York. What is your trade offer and contract offer for him?
