  1. That group hardly exist at all. See the max contract Hamilton poll I started. There are a total of 6 people who said they don't want Hamilton at all, the other 90 people just have a limit in place. I assume the 6 that don't want him are largely against it because of the risk. Not because they don't think he's a great player.
  2. Hamilton and Greinke are options. They're probably just not in our price range. You said it yourself, you're capping Hamilton at $120m. I assume that means when he signs somewhere for more than that you'll acknowledge you were wrong, and that the O's shouldn't have been buyers at his inevitable price. The only difference between you and I is that I've set a slightly lower cap on what I'd pay for Hamilton (5/$100m). So, short of him signing somewhere else for a number between $100-$120m we'll either both agree it was too much too pay, or we'll both be pissed we didn't step up and sign him. I am not opposed to trades for Butler, Headley, or Hosmer... I think we can trade some of our young SP's and guys like Chris Davis and Strop could really help land a true MOO or TOR. I simply prefer to trade for players while they're in their prime then overpay for them when they're in their 30's. I don't know what's wrong with that mentality, but I'm sure you'll enlighten me. I'll just ignore the insults and the name calling. You'll slip up sooner or later, say the wrong thing to the wrong person, and suddenly we won't be seeing post from you anymore.
  3. I bow to your knowledge and ability to work in google docs. Did I say anywhere that I didn't want a $120m payroll in 2013? The discussion has been, as always, Josh Hamilton and Zach Grienke. I assume those are the guys you want. My stance is that I don't want to be paying either of those guys $20m+ in 2018, 2019, and 2020. That is all. What PA can or can not afford means nothing to me, but please keep trying to label me as someone who doesn't want to see payroll increases. Do you think I have some invested interest in putting more money in PA's pocket? All I've ever said was that I didn't want Hamilton beyond 5yrs at no more than $20m per year. Admittedly, that's pretty much as good as not wanting him. Do you not have a cap? Or does it all come from Peter's bottomless pit and therefore you could care less?
  4. He said he would go for/hope for 5/$100m. Which imop is as good as not even making an offer.
  5. And so I ask you again, what is so dirt poor about a $100m payroll? We're probably going to have a similar payroll to the Atlanta Braves, are they acting like catfish too? Or do they get a pass because they've used some of their money on FA's?
  6. Nice job skirting the question. You have to answer yes to this, it's the only way you can stick to your agenda without looking foolish.
  7. That's really cute guy. ______________________ Listen, I didn't say I didn't want Josh Hamilton, never have. I just don't want to pay what I think he'll inevitably get on the market. If he can be had for 4/$80 or even 5/$100. I'd be all about it. Personally, based on what FA's have been getting lately, I think he'll find a way to get a lot more than that and that's too much for me. I am prepared for life without Josh Hamilton, because that's likely the reality. It's not because I've been brainwashed by Roch Kubatko and MASN. The problem with the "go get a big name FA" crowd is that they set zero parameters on where they'd draw the line. It's always "give him a dollar more than his best offer". I don't know how you can critique my belief that a 6+ yr deal would be too much, or that over $20m a year is just more than I'd be willing to spend. If he signs for 4/$80 with some other team, I'll be the first one on here cursing PA. Please let me know when it happens.
  8. So when he signs for 4/$100, 5/$120, or even 6/$140 with someone else are you still going to blast PA for not stepping up?
  9. You're right, and I agree with your post in the thread which posed this question So he might make $25 over the next 3 seasons if he goes to FA. If we buy out his 3yrs of arbitration for $35m and offer ~$18m-$20m a year for the 4yrs after that. I could see 7/$115m.
  10. I love Greike. I don't need to make excuses for why we shouldn't sign him but I do suspect he'll get more money than what I'd be willing to pay him. I assume even you (and MSK) have some line in the sand you're not willing to cross. Right?
  11. Uh, yeah... and don't even tell me you meant "a guy like Hamilton but not actually Hamilton".
  12. I think your #'s are off. He's under control for 3 more seasons. For those 3 seasons combined he'll be lucky to make $15m. The other 4 are not going to cost over $30m a piece.
  13. And yet you want us to sign the biggest question mark in baseball at $25m per year.
  14. How are we behaving like we're broke? We could very well have a top 15 payroll next year. Let me guess, that's not good enough.
  15. Your love affair with a 32yr old LF'er who has a drug problem is what's sad. All I'm saying is, I'd much rather make 2 Adam Jones type extensions, than sign 1 big name FA already past his prime.
