Westburg’s whiff rate is high but his strikeout rate is only 18% so it looks like he has a better approach with two strikes. Cowser has a beautiful swing but it’s like he tries to keep it level on low pitches instead of using the Tony Taters approach of letting the bat head go into golf mode.

Moises Chace, RHP, Orioles Team: High-A Aberdeen (South Atlantic) Age: 20 Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.00, 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 15 SO, 0 HR The Scoop: A 2019 signing out of Venezuela, Chace has been a sneaky performer for the Orioles at the lower levels the last few seasons. He made his 2024 debut last week making two appearances tossing eight total scoreless innings. Chace struck out nine in his season debut before striking out six in his outing on Sunday. Chace’s four-seam fastball sat 94-95 mph with 18 inches of induced vertical break and 8-9 inches of armside run. He mixed in a sweepy slider at 82-83 mph with 10-11 inches of horizontal break and a changeup at 83-84 mph. Chace missed bats with all of his pitches and was consistently around the zone. He’s an interesting off-the-radar name with intriguing stuff and strong early performance. (GP)

He couldn’t hit the inside corner on RH hitters until the 4th or 5th inning. The cutter doesn’t cut. The two seam/one seam is all over the place. 90% of his changeups are a foot outside. The curve was about the only thing working last night.

71% strikes is good. When 50% of those wind up middle middle, no bueno.

I didn’t see the interview but it sounds delusional. Just like in ST when his velocity dipped back down from 95 to 92 he said it was because he was working on location. Dude, you had 95 with command your first ST start and 92 with no command in your last 3. What are you talking about?

That reminds me of “permanently for now”.

Irvin’s command has been terrible since his first two starts in ST. That encompasses his last three starts in ST and first three starts this season. Mullins saved him at least one run and Waltimore saved him another. He looked totally pissed when Hyde removed him one out away from qualifying for the win but it was the right move. I will say, he looked the best in that 5th inning but I didn’t trust him.

Yeah, but if they lose their next two they’re on a pace for 90 wins, maybe out of the wildcard, and practically dead again. Nailed it!
