Do the Orioles platoon Urias and Mateo (Urias is historically better against RHP) at 2B and leave Westburg at 3B? This seems most likely to me. In this case, you’d assume Holliday is replaced by a reserve infielder. We lost Diego Castillo and Livan Soto on waivers and Nick Matón is currently on the IL at Norfolk. Norby? Errol Robinson? Neither is on the 40 man.
Do the Orioles move Westburg to 2B and risk 3B to another rookie adjustment and questionable defense by calling up Mayo? This seems less likely but certainly an option.
Any other possibilities?
1. Letting him walk. This is the most likely scenario. Replacing his 14M salary with someone making the minimum hardly seems to significantly impact extending Burns or even any of our young core, or sign a top FA pitcher. They will or they won’t regardless of the savings.
2. Moving Santander in season seems unlikely but that could have some affect towards adding salary at the deadline.
Sure, many of the same people thought Kimbrel would be a big part of that problem.
24 hours ago, our bullpen could use a couple of key upgrades. After a terrible bullpen night now we have a bullpen with “big problems”.
How was the weather? My recollection was that he didn’t have a feel for it that game and had trouble locating either for a strike or close enough to get a chase.
Time will tell but when I watch Peyton Burdick with Norfolk he sells out for power way more than Fabian and he’s been able to have an extended cup of coffee in MLB and Fabian might be a better defender.
Rooting for more nights like last night even if the home run numbers suffer a little.
Just ask some of those guys in the Christ thread to pray for it. I asked God for my first serious girlfriend and promised if I got that I would never ask for anything again. I’ve been all out of asks for a long, long time.
