  1. I didn’t watch it. Just saw the listing in the guide and turned it on for like 10 seconds.
  2. Was just flipping through the channels and I came across The David Rubenstein Show that airs on Bloomberg TV. (He was interviewing Jane Goodall) clearly he’s been doing it for a while because this was season 9. I have Fubo now and I don’t remember the Bloomberg network on other services I have had in the past. Makes me wonder a few things: 1) Were Bloomberg and Rubenstein behind MASN going to Fubo? 2) wonder if Os games eventually end up on the Bloomberg network and their app?
  3. He only threw a 55% of his pitches for strikes and only missed 6 bats but yet he only let up 5 base runners. Odd start. Wasn’t really good but it didn’t hurt him either.
  4. You have to find a way to get him on the ML team.
  5. Well I was just a peon when I worked there, so it’s not like that experience mattered in my decision. And my view on extensions isn’t you are paying for past years. Hell, I would sign Holliday today and Gunnar is only a year into things. The issue with the extensions is that you are already have the player(s) locked up for most of the years anyway. So, when you sign them to an extension, you are guaranteeing 7-9 years but really all you are gaining is 2-3 years. It’s a lot of money and guarantees for only a few years. Now, the one thing that I have talked about that is important here is if you don’t extend them, do you look to trade them 1-2 years away from free agency because you don’t want to lose a talent like Gunnar, for example, for nothing. So, maybe the extension buys you a few additional years on top of what are already getting. OTOH, you may just decide to go for it with the player and lose them for nothing. I guess you always have the option of going the Tatis route and go 14-15 years but I’m not sure of anyone who is advocating for that or would be ok with that. As for your business decision point here..I think that’s probably the biggest reason you do it…because players like the commitment and the fans like the commitment and there is value to that.
  6. Why is there always a rush to take someone from a role that they are doing a good job in and put them in a role we know they can’t excel in?
  7. 4 walks look bad but his str% was 66%. That’s 2 starts in a row with a high str%. Good stuff there.
  8. Why do you have to extend him? Verlander was signed for a few years when they got him. The extension isn’t part of the deal. It was a separate outcome and that’s a big difference. Im against making poor moves that are likely to fail.
  9. I think he will be absolutely for that…but I also don’t think he has to for reasons I have stated in the past.
  10. Well first of all, I think you are making the mistake that you have to trade high end assets to get good players. That isn’t true (see Verlander) Secondly, as you continue to build good farm systems and develop good players, you can’t play them all. Trades have to be made. It’s a perfect use of resources. We aren’t talking about extensions. We are talking about big FA deals and yes, there is something wrong with it because those contracts largely blow up in your face. It’s an awful use of resources and that has been proven time and time again. Just because the guy has had a good career the first 7-10 years doesn’t mean that it will continue to be as good. Don’t get lured in by the name. The name doesn’t matter, the production does.
  11. Just can’t see a scenario where he signs a FA to a big 9 figure deal.
  12. Why can’t we just keep trading for 1-2 year rentals?
  13. We have plenty of impact level MiLers that we can still trade for impact, longer term pitching. We can also trade vets for pitching. And I do expect the farm system to keep being strong and while we may not have high picks anymore (not that you need them to have a strong system), we are also going to have a real Intl program, which we didn’t have before and that can make up for the lack of higher picks.
  14. He’s going to do what Houston and Atlanta do. Those are your models. The payroll will still be high, especially when these guys get into their arb years but they aren’t going to go crazy in free agency. Build through your system, whether it’s promotions or trades and sign the occasional players to fill in the holes. That’s the way they will do it and it’s the best way to do it.
