  1. We will find out! I would start Cowser with Santander at DH regardless of matchup. If Cowser is on the roster I assume he has mastered hitting lefties at AAA!
  2. That is not how she described the process. She gave a very good explanation that was consistent with the lineups we have seen. She talked about who has input but was very clear that Hyde has the final call.
  3. Elias has already established himself as a GM-speak guy. I would not take anything he says at face value. I will give him credit for turning the franchise around and assume that he has a good reason, whatever it is.
  4. I just don't see the role for him. Westburg and Urias should start against RHP and LHP. He should not punch hit for any of our starters. Mateo can cover any position to give guys rest. He can play defense in blowouts but anyone can do that. Really hope we don't have any games coming down to Kemp off the bench vs their closer!
  5. Westburg hit RHP better in the minors in '22 and '23. Urias has over 1,000 career AB's now. I am not claiming he is a RHP masher by any means, but he can hit RHP and does not need to be platooned.
  6. Interesting take. That is probably the best way to make sense of it. At the end of the day I don't really care who has the last bench spot. Whoever it is, they shouldn't play over Cowser/Westburg/Urias. We can overthink matchups and such.
  7. Elias seems not to get that Urias and Westburg both have reverse splits.
  8. Do we have any idea how much money would have been guaranteed to Wong if we decided to keep him?
  9. It's a major league contract so we should be on the hook for $700k and will need to pass through waivers to get him to AAA. I don't understand this at all except that he seems better than Maton.
  10. They are all trash and we are going 162-0 so who cares?
  11. It's really pointless to ask because the ownership is in transition. Peter signed Adam Jones to a team friendly deal (and Chris Davis to a not so team friendly deal). John did not sign anyone. But that is understandable as it appears he was focused on the teardown and preparing the team for sale. I haven't followed how Peter's death may impact the timing of Rubenstein takeover, but we don't have any data on what Rubenstein will be like as an owner. There is no reason to think that he will be bound to the self imposed norms of the previous regimes.
  12. I reject the hypothetical because the "risk" of him winning ROY is very real.
  13. I'd say the starting pitching in general is concerning. Even with Burnes the projections seem to have him in a negative trend line with rising ERA and falling K/9. Within his range of outcomes you could see him being not much better than average. Hopefully the contract year gives him every incentive for a max effort year but the spring numbers weren't great. Grayson definitely has some uncertainty, Wells has durability questions, and Irvin and Kremer are what they are. No idea what to expect from Means. Probably some will outperform and some will underperform adding up to about what we expect, but there is definitely potential for some ugliness. I feel better about the bullpen but still some concerns there.
  14. Losing Maton or equivalent vs guaranteed draft pick/extra year... Easy choice.
  15. The pick is not guaranteed because Holliday can finish top two. It is only guaranteed if they plan to keep him down so long he has no chance at ROY. I think the smartest way to play it would be to give him a shot at RoY & pick on opening day, then demote him for a month if he doesn't get off to a hot start. That is the only way to guarantee pick or extra year without keeping him down til August.
