  1. Don't tell that to anyone in the Suarez family. HIs brother had never appeared in a major league game until he was 31 and then signed a 5-year $46 million contract at the end of the season with the Padres. Admittedly, 31 isn't mid-30s but it's still wild.
  2. Thank you. His batting hasn't just been bad - it's historically bad. I wish someone could figure out how many batters in major league history have had streaks where they go 1-27 at any point in their careers and strikeout more than 50% of the time. I think if this continues sending him down is smart for 3 reasons. 1) We did it with Grayson last year and it worked out great 2) We'll gain an extra year of control (does anyone think we are getting the draft pick for him being ROY at this point?) 3) He's costing us games. In addition to his lack of hitting, he doesn't appear to be any good with the glove. What's his rep in terms of defense in the minors as he appears to be below average on that front? Everyone ripping on the Tony Kemp signing should apologize after Jackson whiffed that ball behind Mountcastle last night. Urias and Kemp aren't good hitters but they are great with the glove.
  3. Well it certainly doesn't look like he'll be winning Rookie of Year award. And if we send him down for like the tiniest amount of time, we get him for another year, right? I think if this poor hitting continues it's financial mismanagement not to send him back down. Grayson got sent down and came back way better.
  4. Definitely the wife. Where is mom? I keep seeing the talk of dad. I know the dad was a major leaguer but it's weird to me.
  5. Nailed it. I can't believe I haven't seen anyone write an article about this or talk about it on Masn. The fact that there are 4-5 studs at AAA Is great for the Orioles but not great for chemistry if you are a veteran who was on awful teams and then won 101 games last year and now may lose your job. I'm very worried about the psychological impact all of these AAA guys are having on the club and don't know what the answer is. On the one hand, it's great to have talent in the pipeline as they are cheap. But on the other hand, it's not like we know they are way better than the guys we have now. I mean Hays started in the all-star game last year. To constantly know you could be replaced has to have a huge psychological impact. I'm wondering if Elias thinks he can trade some of the veterans. I don't think he'll get much as other teams know we want to unload them. I guess at the deadline people always know that but it if he wants to make any moves now, I think there would be fewer buyers than at the deadline.

    Kevin Brown

Kevin is great, but I too miss Gary. He and Jim were amazing together. Why was he let go? Was it simply money? Or did he piss of the owner?
  7. What was wrong with Frazier? We got 2 wins above replacement for 8 million. It's like going out to eat, expecting a decent meal and getting it.
  8. I totally disagree. I think it would MISMANAGEMENT If we sent the best 26 players North. I'D MUCH RATHER have Holliday for an extra year in 6 years when he's in his physical prime than to have him for 16 days this year. One position player makes very little difference.
  9. I guess you don't realize that Urias has a higher OPS at home (.717) than away (.691). https://www.mlb.com/player/ramon-urias-602104?stats=splits-r-hitting-mlb&year=2023
  10. n years past, I messed with a VPN and got mlb.tv but that's complicated, annoying and I didn't get pre-game or post-game shows. This year, I did DirecTV streaming. It's amazing. I highly recommend it. It's like $90 or $100 a month but you can cancel when the season is over (I switch to youtube tv when the eason is over as it's a little cheaper but it doesn't have MASN). Plus you get basically all the cable channels as well (You need their chocie package or higher to get MASN). But you just stream it on your tv or ipad. YOu aren't paying for a box and there is UNLIMITED DVR. You can tell it to record all orioles games, all pre-game shows, all post-game shows. Hell I think you can tell it to record all MLB games that are on any channel and it will do it. And you can watch it from your phone. So I can go to the park with my 5-year old and watch the game. You can watch it at work. You can watch it on vacaton, etc. It's basically a cable package but you stream it.
  11. It drives me nuts when people rip managers/players after a tough loss. When two of your 3 starting pichers in a 3 game series get bounced before the third inning, it doesn't matter if Jesus Christ is your manager - you aren't winning the series. That being said, let me criticize Hyde. Look, I don't get why we put Hicks in for O'Hearn in the 8th. Chapman was HORRIFIC. We wanted him to stay in. There is no way Boche would do it so call his bluff. And if he keeps Chapman in, then I'll take my chances that Ohearn won't swing at the 4 straight balls. Why in the world did we do that? Why are we trying to get them to pull Chapman? We should have been BEGGING them to keep them in. No way that would have happened - they would have put LeClerc in and Ohearn would have gotten to face him. But once we got outmanaged, I wanted to see Kjerstad for the Grand Slam possibility. I wish he'd gotten an at bat.
  12. We can't afford it. We have a 5 year window. You do realize Texas has a $250 million payroll, right? Ours is like 72. I DO NOT want them signing any aging stars. The fans were happy when we signed Chris Davis, I wasn't. Now I'd sign several of these super young guys through their year 30 season.

We should have been BEGGING them to keep them in. No way that would have happened - we'd have gotten O'Hearn against their closer. But once we got outmanaged, I agree with you there. Put in Kjerstad for the Grand Slam. I hope we give him an at bat in the 9th.
  14. How was he as a commentator? I saw he did it from like 79 to 92 which meant he stopped doing that when he was only 55. Anyone have memories of him as a commentator? Why did he retire from that job so young or did they force him out? I always liked him when he'd show up as a guest in the booth but I didn't become an Os fan until 2012 so I have no idea what he was as an actual commentator. Also, does anyone know what his total salary earned was for the Orioles? It's unfair how little he made compared to the guys nowadays.
  15. As someone said, Brach says some interesting things but he doesn't have the cadence or voice of a broadcaster. And what I don't like about seeing Brach on there is it just reminds me of why he's on there. Isn't his wife friends with Angelos wife? Wasn't there some story of Angelos wife taking a selfie of Brach mid-broadcast last week. JA's wife works in Nashville and is presumably friends with Brach's wife who is a country singer in Nashville, right?
