  1. I, naturally, went to check out who the heck that was when I saw the clip....of course, it isn’t some young minor league pitcher, but a 30 year old! Still quite spry...
  2. No worries. I do agree with you that he doesn’t feel like he’ll be our pick, though I’m definitely intrigued by the guy. Either way, quite an opportunity for him tonight on the biggest stage....former presumptive 1-1 whose stock has taken a mild hit, he’s got the chance to silence some doubters. Obviously big league teams don’t make first round selections based on one game, but it will be interesting to see if he reenters the discussion as a top 3ish pick with a big night tonight. Or what happens if he doesn’t pitch well.
  3. Rocker didn’t pitch tonight. Maybe they’re holding him for game three
  4. So I figured it was worth it to start a thread on Zach Jarrett, who is playing CF most nights in Norfolk while OPSing north of 850. Former 28th round pick was old entering the system out of college (he’s 26 now), but maybe a guy who, had he not lost a year in 2020, would be considered a potential thing? Not sure if anyone who has seen him play has any strong opinions, or any thoughts on how he looks defensively in the outfield. Recognize I’m probably reaching here, but a guy with that OPS at a premium defensive position in AAA at least deserves a mention....maybe?
  5. Lots of loud outs or foul balls. I don’t think it’s a revelation to say that there are serious doubts about whether his stuff will play at the ML level, but I’m certainly rooting for him and you can’t count him out, of course.
  6. Agreed with the sentiment....I’ve been home on paternity leave this past month, so I’ve got time and bandwidth. Usually I’ll start watching the games in the evening, but after the first hour or so, things are so out of hand or so ugly that I’ll switch to NHL or NBA playoffs. Or I’ll cede the remote to my wife and suffer through whatever is on Bravo (which, incredibly, is often not as bad as the Orioles...) I very much want to watch and still generally enjoy it, it’s just really a tough sell when we’re getting our doors blown off or, as in the Cleveland series, the quality of play gets so ugly. Like others, I definitely derive a lot of baseball happiness from monitoring the minor league box scores and dreaming of better days in Baltimore.
  7. Because the Orioles love free stuff...?
  8. Exciting to see Mundy pop a bit, especially as an undrafted guy (albeit in only a five round draft), but I would like to see us not be too aggressive with his promotions. He just turned 23, so obviously he’s on the older side, but not egregiously so. He’s only had 116 professional ABs, and less than 50 in his two weeks at high-A. That’s just a healthy hot streak for some guys. I’d like to see him continue to excel at Aberdeen at least through July before moving him up to Bowie for the final month if he’s still taking. Let him continue to develop and his confidence grow.
  9. Not trying to be annoying, but I’ll just note that Elias said “several weeks” before he is able to start throwing again, which to me is different than missing a few weeks. Full quote from the MASN article below: ““There was some tendinitis, some inflammation, so we’ll pull him out of the rotation, let him rest for a couple of weeks and in several weeks start to build him back up and return to the Bowie rotation here in good time,” Elias said.” I know this is one of these situations where we’ll all hold our collective breath, and not trying to be overly pessimistic. Just want to manage expectations a bit that I’m kind of feeling like it’ll be measured in months (as in 1-2), not weeks, before we’re seeing Hall pitch in Bowie again. That’s the implication I’m getting from Elias. Obviously all good if so, just need to rest the kid up and hopefully get him back to 100%. https://www.masnsports.com/school-of-roch/2021/06/elias-updates-medical-statuses-of-kjerstad-hall-and-davis.html
  10. I actually think Leyba may get the first crack at the 2B job in Baltimore. More gut feel than anything. That said, I agree with you that I’d like to see one of the two promoted and playing by the end of the month.
  11. Agree that’s it’s disheartening - and a bit surprising - to see him getting inconsistent work this year. Would like to give him a fair shake given past success. He starts tonight in Jacksonville, so hopefully A) he throws well and B) this is the beginning of some consistent starting chances for him. Would be interested in reviews from those who are able to watch.
  12. My wife and I went to Sunday's game with another couple and had a great time. A couple observations: - Bottom line up front is that I'd very much encourage folks to go. We've been relatively cautious during Covid, but really at no point felt cramped or uncomfortable. Certainly some of that is that now most of the folks I was with were fully vaccinated, but there's plenty of space in between seats and really not that many people. Even coming into the stadium and in concession lines, people were generally respectful of distance and it was no issue. I'm sure, anecdotally, there will always be someone messing up, but it wasn't an issue for us. Just wanted to start with that context for those that harbor understandable apprehensions, acknowledging everyone has different circumstances/risk perceptions. - Definitely make sure you read the modified regulations before you go - the issue with purses and parking, as some folks noted above, are definitely present. You've just got to be aware of them and plan (my wife switched out her purse just before leaving the house, and my friend's wife had a borderline-sized purse that got waved through after a little negotiation). I can't speak for parking, as we just did a garage on Pratt. - Mobile ticketing and electronic payments were all fully in use, so do recommend just coming prepared. If you're comfortable with using them, it's no issue, but understand some people aren't as tech savvy. Just a pretty minor planning factor. - Regarding masks, most people were good about wearing them, though clearly some of that slipped when people were sitting at their seats. I did see a few times where ushers enforced the masking at your seat rule, but it didn't seem overly draconian (it wasn't that if your beer left your lips for more than two seconds and your mask wasn't up, ushers would descend on you). Those patrons I observed were mostly compliant when directed (except the stray Phillies fan who decided to be difficult). Although I know some folks aren't crazy about it, to be honest, I've been at work every day for the last year wearing a mask the entire time for 8+ hours, so I'm not especially sympathetic. Little bit of a pain, but won't kill ya for a couple hours. - As others have stated, most but not all concessions appeared to be open. Prices did feel a touch on the steep side, but I'd bet they're comparable to what they were in 2019. The O's clearly haven't moved to the Ravens modified pricing. - Lastly, the bar scene before the game was of course quite different than normal, but still very workable and pleasant. Pickles, Sliders, etc have taken over huge spaces in front of their buildings, with plentiful tables well-spaced out. We got to Sliders at maybe 11:45 before a 1 o'clock game on a Sunday, and we had no issue getting a table. Again, overall would recommend folks go, if you're comfortable. I'll tell you it was absolutely great to get back out there and do something normal after having been cooped up for so long.
  13. Yes... I’m way more concerned about an ownership group that can build a winner. moderators: Edited to take away politics and attack other poster
  14. Echo the sentiments of many others that I love Gary Thorne, am thrilled he'll be back in at least some capacity, and hope that will continue next year. I don't mind Scott Garceau, but Gary is truly in another class of broadcaster.
  15. My first, knee jerk reaction was incredulity that a reputable(ish) source could still have Luis Ortiz in our top 30. Then I quickly realized it was NOT the Ortiz acquired from Milwaukee in the Schoop trade, but rather the Luis Ortiz that was an international signing last year. Then my blood pressure returned to normal. Overall a pretty good list, I think, though I feel like some of this year’s draftees are a touch high for me (Westburg being the most glaring).
