  1. Sending him down 1) takes away the full season of service time (the biggest reason), 2) might get the MLB team an extra win during the struggles (hasn't bit us yet but it easily could), and 3) if he needs larger adjustments like changing the leg kick, gives him a low leverage environment to experiment with that. Do the Tides not have pitching machines that can replicate big league pitching? I do think staying here is best for purely development but I just don't think the difference is large enough to offset the other reasons.
  2. I just don't get the notion that he can't learn anything in AAA, as if he's graduated after dominating for 10 games this year (and not really more than much of the rest of the team at the time), and having a solid 18 AAA games last year. He's had barely more than a month in AAA. I do think he would eventually right the ship here in MLB, but he can also make the needed adjustments in AAA without hurting the big league team, and get the O's that extra year of control. His odds of winning ROY have gotten a lot lower so I don't think that is much of a factor anymore either.
  3. DJ Stewart has a 1.031 OPS in 12 games.
  4. I don't think the moneyball approach disappears just because of new ownership. We got Burnes through trading surplus prospects, not spending money. I suspect that will be how we acquire starting pitching going forward too, at least in the near future. I don't envision huge money being spent until at least when the pipeline starts to thin out because our draft picks are lower, which will take a few years.
  5. Adley and Gunnar had poor starts and I would've voted over on 2.9 for them, but something feels different with Holliday where the adjustments are going to have to be a lot bigger. I can see him ending up with a 2 WAR Ramon Urias type year, and I'll be satisfied with that at this age.
  6. Looked like Mountcastle hesitated there and maybe could've scored otherwise.
  7. Two of those sinkers had insane run. 18 and 19 inches instead of his usual 9-10.
  8. I'm not expecting ace stuff but think he could've gotten a decent 6 IP 3 ER if things rolled better.
  9. Honestly think he pitched mostly fine and got screwed over by the ump and Holliday calling for a ball he couldn't get to.
  10. Isn't Kemp guaranteed the full $1 million, not a prorated amount if he's released? That's what Spotrac seems to imply. If it were just he makes 35% more than minimum during the time he is here, then that's not a big deal, but the full $1 million implies he was not intended to hold a temporary spot.
  11. Send him down on the last day if he's not winning ROY to get the extra year.
  12. If this was 2021 then sure, but we need a lot of innings from him this year and hopefully in October.
  13. Not a fan of pushing Grayson here.
  14. Found this. Statcast is still calling it a cutter in today's game. His old slider was around the same velocity as his curveball so maybe he tweaked this to make the curveball more unique.
  15. Really hate the bunt decision.
