I agree his timing seems off. That is why I was saying he might have a bit too much of a leg kick. There are some who can get away with it in the majors, but others have had to adjust.
Gunnar was bad but it was mainly because he was too passive. He often would watch a strike or two and then try to hit. That isn’t what is going on here. Admittedly Holliday seems to get a lot of tough pitches but he also seems to basically miss them off
I am sure this will work itself out but I am really surprised with a guy that is supposed to have the hit tool that Holliday has swings and misses as much as he does. This is a guy who walked and struck out the same amount in the minors. He swings and misses a ton.
Holliday may have to modify that leg kick and make it into a little more of a toe tap. His timing is off. He isn’t as extreme, but Ohtani had to drop his leg kick when he couldn’t hit in spring training. Trout convinced him to do it.
I truly wonder as these guys come up whether the Orioles will get anything of significance for any of the vets. Mounty should have some value to someone.
