So bringing up that stat in a discussion about whether Holliday could/should have gotten to the ball was utterly irrelevant in the first place.

Michael Lorenzen, who didn't sign with the Rangers until less than a week before the season, made his first start tonight and threw 5 3-hit shutout innings (he did walk 5). Beat the Tigers 1-0.

Add a run here so Kimbrel gets a night off.

Wonder if that's a consequence of a long time shortstop playing 2B for the first time. First base must look so close, it doesn't "feel" right to wing it like you would in a lifetime of playing short.

RIP to Ken Holtzman, who was briefly an Oriole in the 1970s. A lefty pitcher, much better known for his work with the A's and Cubs and Yankees. He was 76.

Huh? I haven't seen any of that. As far as I have seen, MLB never mentions him because they know that everybody knows how bad he is. I've certainly not seen them promoting him in anyway. Don't think he's gotten any plum postseason assignments in years. I assume the reason he can't be fired is related to their CBA with the umpires union. Has any umpire of any race been fired? If it has happened I don't think I've heard about it.

Effective immediately. He did the first 10 games of the season then was off the past week, so his last broadcast was April 7. I can't say I was ever a fan, his bombastic home run calls and drawn out "theeeeeeeee Yankeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees win" got on my nerves. But I probably have listened to he and Suzyn Waldman do more games than any other non-Oriole announcers. My parents retired to New England (then later New York state) in 1986 and I literally made hundreds of trips up that way to visit them until my mother passed away in 2022 (my father in 2004). And the WFAN signal was strong, if they were playing the Orioles I would of course listen, and if I couldn't get the Orioles, then on my drives and when I was staying up later than my early-to-bed parents on visits, I would listen as well. https://www.mlb.com/news/john-sterling-retires
