  1. The certainty with which people express opinions during/after the draft always amuses me.
  2. Have I missed a Max Wagner update somewhere? Doesn't seem to be playing but I can't find any news on him.
  3. Just wanted to put a button on this series and say that the Sunday win seems to epitomize this team's success over the past few years. That Milwaukee team was in "great form" as we would say in the soccer world, and when they went ahead late in the game it would have been easy to roll over, but this team never panics and just keeps grinding away and finding ways to avoid long stretches of losing baseball.
  4. Honestly the hype around Holliday is getting really stupid. I was listening on the radio last night and Ben Wagner (new guy) was doing the call. He's been OK so far, but during that 7th inning while the O's were rallying, I swear all he talked about was Holliday getting his first hit. It was almost like the fact that we had rallied to take the lead was secondary. Even Founding Father Adley didn't get this much hype. Is it just because he's Matt Holliday's kid?
  5. Well the "stats" right now aren't very good for either, but the season has barely started, so not much to see there. Santander started pretty slowly last year as well and then rebounded to have a very good season. Not too worried about him. I think it's fair to be a bit concerned about Mullins given how he ended last year but he's still earned a lot of rope and there's no one really pushing for CF right now. The defense still looks very good to me.
  6. No argument at all from me in terms of winning trumps everything else. I'd rather have a winning team of mercenaries than an unsuccessful homegrown team. But there's something extra-fulfilling about seeing guys have success in the majors that you've followed for years in the minors. Nothing wrong with that.
  7. Elias and Co. have had a clear strategy that they think they get better return by focusing on position players. The highest they've ever drafted a pitcher was Jackson Baumeister last year in the 2nd round with the 63rd overall pick.
  8. Many on this board have followed the minor leagues and the prospect pages for quite a while. There were times where that portion of the system was far more interesting than the MLB team. Many also remember that the Orioles amazingly went from Cal Ripken Jr. to Jerry Hairston before developing a single every day position player through their system. There have been many discussions about how you can't field a fully homegrown lineup and be competitive, and while I generally agree with that assessment the Orioles are pretty close to pulling it off: C - Rutschman 1B - Mountcastle 2B - Holiday SS - Gunnar 3B - Westburg/Mayo LF - Hays/Cowser CF - Mullins RF - Stowers/Kjerstad Not trying to push Santander out the door at all, he'll still get a lot of playing time, but it's amazing to think that soon it is very possible that the Orioles will be fielding an entirely homegrown lineup.
  9. Don't worry, the minute a lefty come in old Hays-ie will be back in there.
  10. Supposedly he was a bit under the weather on Friday but came in as a PH halfway through the game. Then started Saturday and Sunday.
  11. As a Vikings fan I hate to quote Aaron Rodgers but... R-E-L-A-X. Our opponents are (obviously) 4-5 against us. Against other teams the Angels are 4-2, the Royals are 5-2, and the Pirates are 6-1, for a total of 15-5. I think the bigger takeaway is that this "easy" start to the season is going to end up being more difficult than we had expected. The Royals and Pirates in particular look much improved. Long way to go fellas. We'll have times where we look great and times where we look like terrible. Settle in for the ride!
  12. Kremer says today "It ain't gonna be me!" Seriously though I don't think Kremer's really in play here unless he pitches poorly.
  13. I have to listen to the radio a lot due to transporting my kids around, and plus I love doing yardwork with the radio on. I am resolved to not let it bother me this year haha. All of the criticisms in this thread are spot on and have been since she started. She does seem like a really cool person and her colleagues seem to like her a lot. The one pet peeve I'll add that doesn't just apply to her - a lot of our PBP guys do a very poor job calling strkeouts. Half the time I don't know if the strikeout is looking or swinging. You just get "Johnson sets down Smith with a low and away fastball right on the corner of the zone!" It's not a huge deal but is it too much to tell if it was looking or swinging?
  14. Haha that is indeed a great call.
  15. Oh I don't disagree that they're hitting the ball really hard, but these numbers obviously wont' keep up.
