  1. Kind of a distinction without a difference, no? Yes, it got hit by a ship and the ship knocked it down, but it did collapse.
  2. By 7 games? We can quibble if that qualifies as "significantly outperformed" or not. I could easily argue that it doesn't mean that much considering how well the Orioles hit with RISP and how well they played in close games. Either way, why should they regress by 14 games?
  3. Is your argument that wealthy people don’t gamble? Someone better notify Vegas. I agree with others that this whole thing stinks of a cover up.
  4. Why be snarky? It's not about whether he's good or not, he obviously is. But do you honestly think there are only 2 players better than him in the entire league?
  5. I just started looking at the list but Soto at #3. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

  7. I don't think Hays has a future beyond his arb years in Baltimore. That being said, it is nice to have a guy express a desire to stay here. That hasn't happened in awhile.
  8. I really don't understand the argument you're trying to make. A large market team not spending to their fullest market capability doesn't suddenly make them a small market. If the Dodgers decide to have a 30m payroll, that won't make them small market. It just means the owner isn't spending money. If a team like the Orioles spends more than their market theoretically allows, it doesn't mean they are a large market team.
  9. You can think that the Orioles should have a much higher payroll but they are very obviously a small market team.
  10. There are only 9 teams with a payroll of $200m +. The league average is $158m.
  11. I don't think anyone necessarily wants to give that much money to anyone. But if that's the cost of baseball players now, then it's the cost. I would rather give that type of money to a 30-year-old pitcher than a 30-year-old position player.
  12. Nooo. No Ornithologically Correct Bird.
  13. Exactly. We can complain that some owners are just pocketing money and not spending on free agents. But that doesn't mean that those owners are able to hand out a billion dollars of contracts to two players in one offseason. I mean I just don't see how these types of salaries can continue in professional sports. At some point the salaries can't keep increasing just because the next big free agent wants to be the highest paid player in the league. In 20 years are we going to have billion dollar team payrolls?
  14. Jonah Heim hit like 216 in the Orioles system. He went to two other teams before the Rangers. Heim's decent enough but his career season was really a tale of two halves. Adley should have started over him the AS game and had the better season overall.
