  1. Well, if his FB was the same today, probably not very well. But if it was the same relative to the league as it was then, he’d probably be very good. Very heady pitcher.
  2. Just answer the question. Where do you think he should play, and how often? Whose time are you cutting to make room? This would be a lot easier if Ryan O’Hearn had a sub-.600 OPS. But he’s hitting the snot out of the ball.
  3. I don’t think Gunnar’s a good benchmark. He was 18 months older, had more minor league experience, had been better in AAA, and had already spent a month in the majors. At the same time, I do expect Holliday to start hitting better very soon. Not sure I’d expect him to “break out” soon but I’d expect him to start looking respectable.
  4. Even for spring training, it’s been pretty dismal. He was much sharper in last year’s rehab starts. Hopefully he’ll start sharpening up next time out.
  5. Interesting that the OH poll would be more pessimistic. But you did a good job setting the O/U.
  6. If your screen name was OsFsnSinceThe70s, you would have. However, the early 80’s staff had some pretty awesome starters.
  7. Nice night for Fabian, 4 for 4 with a double and a walk. Now hitting .297/.395/.486, although weirdly he’s only had one RBI on the young season in 10 games. At least he’s scoring runs, with 9 in 10 games. K rate holding steady at 32.4%.
  8. Interestingly, Mantle’s slump wasn’t really that awful. He had a .763 OPS when he was sent down in mid-July, and had been struggling a bit for 6-7 weeks, posting a .675 OPS over 40 games. Needless to say, Holliday has been struggling a lot more than that, though it’s only been 7 games.
  9. I generally agree we shouldn’t read too much into it. However, I’m very nervous.
  10. Here’s a quote from Grayson after his Tuesday start: "Fastball command wasn't really there," he said. "I thought that could have been a lot better. But being able to pitch with the off-speed was a big step forward, being able to land stuff for strikes. Also, put guys away with sliders in the dirt." He hasn’t ditched the slider. Maybe he’s just throwing it differently?
  11. That seems really weird to me. That’s been a pretty good pitch for him for years. I’ll have to watch his next start more closely.
  12. I see that the O’s are continuing to play Kjerstad at 1B about twice a week. He hasn’t made any errors there (or in the OF) since his egregious drop in the opening game. But, I wonder if he’s looking any better overall.
  13. Well, I agree with that. But it doesn’t really matter who any of the fans are counting on.
  14. Well, last year he had both a cutter and a slider. In the first two months, he was having trouble commanding the slider and was using the cutter way too much. When he returned, he’d almost completely ditched the cutter and had regained command of the slider. So he’s definitely got a slider.
