  1. How do you make the distinction?
  2. The ump isn’t calling the low strike. Should be a good day for the bats once they figure that out.
  3. I see no reason to prejudge whether to make a QO to Santander. Let’s see what kind of year he has, and how guys like Kjerstad do.
  4. Claimed by the Reds. See ya.
  5. Hyde told the media in Anaheim that John Means is a possibility for Sunday. Otherwise, it's Suárez. https://www.masnsports.com/blog/mountcastle-returns-to-orioles-lineup-plus-notes
  6. I’m not aware of any limits on QO’s.
  7. Why? With Hays on the IL I expect Kjerstad is safe for now.
  8. Right. Or 29th if they feel like giving him an extra day.
  9. Anyone notice him smiling as he got into the box for his final at bat? I think he was feeling a little better about life after making solid contact twice in a row.
  10. In my book, he’s had two outings that were awful and three that were decent, including yesterday’s. My guess is that if he has a decent outing on the 27th, the O’s won’t go through gymnastics to try to find a way to extend his rehab, even though his ERA has been a train wreck.
  11. I messed up mentioning Mateo. I was trying to stick with the guys in yesterday’s lineup, per the OP. That’s why I mentioned O’Hearn. But Mateo wasn’t in yesterday.
  12. I do, because the +10, 0, -10 bakes in the position they play. A LF whose ten runs worse than the average LF hurts you just as much as the SS who’s 10 runs worse than the average SS. Of course, a -10 LF has to be REALLY bad, since he gets fewer chances than a SS gets. But the impact is the same. And obviously, in my hypothetical the offensive/defensive surplus/deficit zeroes out, but it doesn’t for most players.
  13. I’ll now answer my own question. Even though these three players are theoretically equivalent from a run differential standpoint, I would not want the player who’s -10 on defense. That’s because I believe that poor defense bothers pitchers, causes them to try to do too much, and demoralizes them. So maybe the fielder isn’t “responsible” in a WAR calculation when the rattled pitcher serves up gopher ball or walks the next guy after a poor defensive play, but there’s cause and effect there IMO. So, give me someone who plays at least decent defense. And, I think the Orioles feel the same way.
  14. Let’s also give the org credit for the O’Hearn pickup. He was part of last night’s lineup. For that matter, they picked up Mateo too.
