  1. Whenever I get excited about the first two starts a pitcher has, I just remember Mike Wright, who pitched two seven inning shutouts out of the gate.

“Teams that receive revenue-sharing payouts can't receive a lottery pick for more than two years in a row and those that don't can't get a top-six choice in consecutive Drafts. Furthermore, a club that's ineligible for the lottery can't select higher than 10th overall.” https://www.mlb.com/
  3. I’ll guess around 90-95. You’re right that it’s hard to judge them.
  4. You didn’t mention Norby, but he was a pretty solid 2nd round pick. Agree those rounds 3-5 look sketchy.
  5. There’s only one or two posters I know of who have seriously suggested extending Means, and that was during the offseason before his delayed start to 2024 and rocky rehab. yark14 is crazy if he thinks anyone but him will be clamoring for a Means extension after 2-3 starts. He could throw 20 shutout innings and I doubt there would be much clamor. Let’s see Means get through the remainder of the season healthy and then we can worry about whether we want him to be part of the team in 2025.
  6. Those were two crappy plays and each one resulted in a runner advancing to 2B. The burden of proof is on Kjerstad to show he’s better than O’Hearn out there. He sure didn’t prove it last night.
  7. He took baby steps last night. The single he hit was a nice shot up the middle, 104.4 off the bat. The liner that hit the pitcher also was hit squarely and up the middle. I know Statcast says 75 mph but I’m not sure I believe that. In any event, hit on the button. His final strikeout was aided by two called strikes that were outside the zone. He made a nice DP by snaring a liner and immediately firing to first to catch the runner off base; the runner would have been safe if Holliday had hesitated at all, but he showed excellent awareness there. I’ve been pretty hard on Holliday, but if he has a few more games like that one, the case for letting him stay in the majors improves.
  8. Cowser did significantly better in his first 32 PA than Holliday did. That said, baby steps in the right direction tonight.
  9. 4.2 scoreless tonight, 1 hit, 3 walks, 5 K’s. ERA at 0.54. He may warrant an early promotion to Bowie.
  10. So Statcast doesn’t think GRod is throwing sliders this year? Riiiiiiiggghhhht.
  11. I’m not dissing Mayo’s defense today. I’m just wishing Cooper would have given BA’s views on his defense this year. He made 3 errors the first weekend I think, so obviously he’s settled down in term of big mistakes. That’s only part of assessing defense. I appreciate your opinions but I’d rather hear it from objective sources who are professional evaluators.
