  1. I am guessing the extension only works when the player is rehabbing directly following recovery from surgery. That was the case with Hernandez. But in Means’ case, he pitched in four major league games, pretty effectively, after his 2023 rehab stint. So I doubt this would count as a post-surgery rehab. I guess we’ll find out.
  2. I hope the O’s don’t give them a reason to stop talking about it. I agree it gets tiresome when you recall the painful playoff sweep, which was far more meaningful than any regular season sweep would have been. But we may as well keep the regular season streak going as long as humanly possible.
  3. I’d be happy to be wrong. But I wouldn’t bet that way.
  4. They can always conclude he’s not recovered and put him back on the IL, so long as they think they can justify it. And wildcard seems to think they can petition to extend his rehab. I’ve never heard of that but wildcard says Texas did it previously.
  5. The O’s will be swept by somebody this year. And I guarantee that when it’s happening, half the posters will act like the end of the franchise is at hand. But good teams typically get swept a couple of times a season.
  6. I am neither a Means defender nor a Means detractor. He’s been valuable in the past, including his short stint last year. This rehab has not gone well. Hopefully it will improve. We aren’t going to activate him if he isn’t ready to help the team.
  7. They were obnoxious. And I only saw bits and pieces of it, because I was traveling at the time. However, this is pretty much a completely different team, so who cares.
  8. Lacks a slider? When he’s pitching well, his slider is very good.
  9. Tonight’s game looks like the key to the series. Marsh was brilliant against the O’s in Baltimore, but has been mediocre in his two subsequent appearances. Kremer was so-so against the Royals, then had one excellent start followed by a complete stinker. So what Kremer do we get tonight? KC has already played the pitiful White Sox 7 times, going 6-1. They also put a 3-0 spanking on the Astros, who’ve been surprisingly bad. They’ve lost series to the Twins, O’s and Mets but took a game in each.
  10. I just think it’s too soon to think about sending him down. Two more weeks like this? It definitely would be time. But I’ll bet we don’t see two more weeks like this.
  11. Funny, because I always mix up those two players. Max and Mac.
  12. Actually, the performance of a single player doesn’t tell you anything about the correlation over thousands of players.
  13. Fangraphs definitely has changed fWAR multiple times, including this season.
  14. Re the “carry over from last year” argument, I was thinking today about Luke Scott in 2009-10. In 2009, Scott had a .957 OPS at the all star break, but slumped horribly after that and posted a .667 the rest of that season. Then he had a horrible first 5 weeks in 2010, and as of May 4, had a .604 OPS. We were hearing all the exact same arguments about how Scott’s bad start was tied to his poor finish in 2009 and spelled long term doom. Zap - Scott then posted a .964 OPS for the rest of the season. I'm not saying this will happen with Hays, but it’s an example of why I don’t buy the “carry over” argument.
  15. I have been known to follow that rule myself. Though to be honest, a better rule might be never trust anything ever. We’ve seen promising May/June stats go south plenty of times, as well as guys who dug themselves out of huge holes.
