  1. Will he? Granted it’s not his PE firm acquiring the O’s, so that’s good. Hope this is a local guy’s pet project. Curious about the Mike AroughetI inclusion.
  2. Bingo. PE rarely care about customers or fans. They only care about profit and stripping companies down to their bones. I hope Rubinstein operates differently as an owner than his PE firm background.
  3. Private equity always give me pause. They can be vultures. Hope they don’t run the team like they do their PE firms.
  4. Regional TV markets matter tremendously. See: MASN. Not to mention fanbases in general. This isn't a situation of a few teams. This is a situation of upwards of 6 teams all having an issue. Not to mention some of the animus from other team owners (say: the Nationals). I think it's a non-starter for relocation. Maybe there's a world in which Nashville gets an expansion team. Stewart has been trying for the better part of a decade. And maybe his $2bn bid will work out for an expansion team. But there are bigger/better markets.
  5. Within 45 minutes to 1.5 hours from Baltimore you have: DC (nearly 700k), Philadelphia (1.6 million). Baltimore City and County combined is nearly 1.5m. I can go on if you go 3 hours out. Official census data on Nashville shows an estimated population (as of 2022) of 684k. That's down from what they collected in 2020 (690k). To put things in perspective, the population of Baltimore County in 2020 was 854k, but in 2022 (estimated) was 846k. Both of those markets were down ~1%. Nashville isn't some panacea. It's a risk.
  6. That example really isn't relevant here if we're talking about Cowser. Mateo is trending towards a bench player, even more so with Cedric back. The issue I have here is Cowser staying up here over McKenna. When Hicks is activated, I'd be perplexed if Cowser isn't sent down and instead Jorge Mateo is cut.
  7. Hicks had a rough 4 days prior to getting hurt, but for the rest of the month of July he slashed .271/.321/.417 - .738 OPS. That's respectable.
  8. Mateo actually has been decent against LHP (.300/.340/.450, 790 OPS) and brings defense, positional versatility, and speed.
  9. Cowser was hurt at the time of the signing. I suppose you could have just ran McKenna out there every day, but they clearly identified a problem with his stance/approach and worked on it. Who is he taking time away from at this point? Cowser has been lackluster, and Kjerstad isn't a center fielder. And Hicks is good insurance for guys like Mullins and Hays who is injury prone.
  10. Vespi makes a ton of sense with the Coulombe injury. McKenna being sent down and not Cowser is a headscratcher to say the least.
  11. Very surprised Cowser wasn't sent down. His defense has been lackluster even in the corner OF spots, and his bat and approach has gotten worse. I really don't understand the value of keeping him up at this point over McKenna. But maybe they just want a couple more looks until Hicks is back. I'm super high on Cowser, but you can't keep running him out there or even clogging up a roster spot. At least with McKenna you get speed, defense, bunting ability, the occasional hit. I'm just not sure what Cowser is bringing to the club this year.
  12. Nashville is roughly half the metropolitan size of Baltimore.
