  1. He's on paternity leave. I assume Vespi will be sent down once Webb returns.
  2. If the goal is to have a placeholder until they can get the extra year for Holliday, why bring in someone from outside the organization? I don't think they are planning to DFA Kemp on May 1.
  3. The reason I don't like this move is that it creates another barrier to Holliday being called up. Nevin or McKenna at least wouldn't be competing for playing time at 2B. I was worried that Wong would make the team, then I was relieved that he didn't. Now we have another Kolten Wong, a veteran whose vetaranosity will keep him in the majors whether he deserves it or not.
  4. This is where I'm at now. I figure Cowser has made the team, which leaves one spot for Wong, Nevin and McKenna. For some reason it won't bother me so much if McKenna makes the team, because you can at least argue that he has a role --backup center fieder who can give Mullins relief against lefties. Wong and Nevin don't have a role that couldn't be filled better by Holliday or Mayo.
  5. Well, Mayo is going to take over from Holliday as the best prospect in baseball some time this season...Basallo will take over from Mayo next year...so I'm interested in seeing who can step up and keep our grip on having the best prospect in baseball once Basallo gets to the majors.
  6. I can think of a much tougher spot for a prospect to be in. Such as being injured, or not playing well and facing the likelihood of being released. Stowers is probably a lot happier today than he's been in a couple of years--he's raking and proving that he deserves a shot in the majors. I'm sure he'd prefer that be in Baltimore, but I'm also sure he'd rather be playing full time in Kansas City than in Norfolk this season.
  7. I can see an argument for letting Stowers be the 4th outfielder to start the season, to give him a chance to show that he can hit major league pitching. If he does, you can package him for a quality arm or two. Either way, Cowser replaces him after 6-8 weeks.
  8. Westburg has more upside than Urias, for sure. I guess for me it depends on what we could get in return. I'm assuming that you could get a lot more back for Westburg. I can also see an argument for patience in this case. Westburg played well last year in the majors, but he never showed the home run power that he had in the minors. If he can bring that into his game this year in Baltimore, his trade value jumps. Maybe let him play his way into being a better trade chip and let Mayo continue to develop in Norfolk for half a season. I think Mayo will become a fixture at 3B in Baltimore eventually, though.
  9. If it were up to me, I would trade Westburg. He's going to be a good player but he doesn't have near the upside of Mayo, Gunnar or Holliday. If Mayo is still seen as a liability defensively at 3B, then sure, send him back to Norfolk to keep working on his defense and let Westburg play 3B regularly. But if Mayo is considered to be good enough with the glove, I don't think he should switch positions and I don't think that Westburg should be blocking him.
  10. "When half-gods go, the gods arrive"--Emerson Urias is a good utility player who belongs in the major leagues, but if he is keeping Westburg on the bench and Mayo in AAA for a good chunk of the 2024 season then something is wrong.
  11. No John Hirschbeck? No Marquis Grissom? This list is suspect.
  12. Isn't his real competition Urias starting at 3B and Westburg playing 2B?
  13. Russ Ortiz. ERA for Orioles in 2006: 8.48 Adam Eaton. ERA for Orioles in 2008: 8.56 Dark days indeed. The thing is, they were already terrible before the O's got them, and the O's kept trotting them out there even though they were terrible. Very frustrating to watch as a fan.
  14. I just wanted to point out how crazy it is that there isn't enough room for all of Mayo, Holliday, Henderson and Westburg...and we haven't even said anything about Norby or Horvath or Wagner. The outfield is also crowded going forward.
