Gotta think that he’ll agree to be optioned to the minors. It’s his quickest and most stable path back to the majors as a starter. If not, we might have to hide him as the 8th man in the bullpen, or IL him which could delay him another 30+ days, or DFA him and he’ll bounce around the league most likely as a reliever.
Hays was 0-2 on Wednesday, and is 1-28 in April with 1BB and 6Ks. In his last 81 games and 265 AB he's at .204 / .268 / .332. People are asking if Hays is the new Ryan McKenna, but I don't know if McKenna was ever this bad at the plate for that amount of time.
Longterm he’s probably that missing RH SU/MR that we’ve been looking for since the Fuji trade.
It’s probably Suarez vs Ramírez vs Tate for 1-2 bullpen spots. Wells and one of Irvin/Means could be in the bullpen mix as well.
Depth is good to have. I wouldn’t sleep on Ramirez either. Elias has shown a knack from adding relievers through trade or waivers.
