I know Riggins is a Snyder hater and I also get the sense that he's often full of hot air so take the following for what its worth to you:
Riggins said yesterday that he heardthe McNabb acquisition was Snyder's call and not the direction Allen/ Shanahan wanted to go. Yesterday, he speculated that Shanny was taking a stand with the move to pull McNabb.Last edited by ccbird; 11-01-2010 at 06:13 PM.

[sarcasm] Yes, I took an unwarranted shot at you. It couldn't possibly have been in response to this snide and unnecessary comment.[/sarcasm]
Honestly, its not the worst comment you've ever made, but I don't think there were any redskins fans creeping into the Ravens board to say crap after they almost lost to the Bills. There is no possible way you can think you know more about how awful the Skins have been than Redskins fans, so the only possible reason you can have for pointing it out, is to rub it in.
Also, to say I "always take shots at ravens and their fans" shows me that you haven't been paying attention. Once the Redskins section was created, I've been a church mouse. I never had a problem with the Ravens anyways. Why would I? They have virtually nothing to do with the Redskins.
I didn't even neg rep you. Thanks for the true rebuttal though.

Shanahan: McNabb doesn't know the terminology. No, I mean he out of shape. Wait, he's actually still hurt..... yeaaaah, he's hurt - that's the ticket.

I am concerned that McNabb's benching is due to Kyle Shanahan's unwillingness to tailor his system to his personnel. Typically, one would say, "my QB1 is having trouble with (insert aspect of game). How can I simplify/adjust the game plan to put him in a position to succeed." Lil' Shanny appears to be saying, "my system is more important than my personnel," which is absurd. One would expect the Head Coach to step and in set things right, but obviously Dad is going to give son a bit more leeway than he would another OC.
This scenario, if true, creates resentment from the players and staffers. The specific decision to bench McNabb is even worse than that because now the players are wondering what the heck is going on. They know McNabb gives them the best chance to win and Grossman pretty much removes any chance to win. It's gotta be difficult to get motivated when you don't know if you are going to have a shot or not. Shanahan needs to be transparent with them, but unfortunately, he couldn't be more opaque.
Good thing P. Manning is refusing to negotiate for an extension, will become a free agent, and sign with the Redskins for 2011-12. (Source: My Unreasonable Hopes and Dreams)

Meanwhile Jason Campbell has been playing pretty well since getting his job back.

Such a crappy game. Too many penalties, including the offsides that turned a field goal into a TD and the block in the back on Banks' first TD return. If you said that the Skins would be 4-4 at the bye, I'd take it. It just sucks that they had a chance to be 5-3 and on pace with the other teams in the NFC.

I see this with so damned many football coaches; this "I'll bend the players I have to my system" attitude, rather than bending the system to the players at hand until you can get the guys who fit your system.
It made no sense when Shottenheimer did it. It makes no sense with Shanahan pere et fils doing it. It makes no sense, period.

It's a 6 in one hand, half dozen in the other situation. A lot of times you see the mismatch try to get forced, then the coach gets fired before he has a chance to find someone that works with his system, so you don't really get enough feedback to see if that is what is needed.
I do know that Schaub did much better last year than he is this year. We all knew part of the risk with McNabb was that he was older and could be declining. While I'll agree it's hard to read correctly because you have to wonder if the interior O-line + Heyer has just been playing poorly lately, if the lack of a good blocking RB has been hurting, or if McNabb has just gotten a little slower in his reads, or doesn't mesh well with the system. Maybe they should put him in the shotty so he has more time for that deep read, but it seems to me that Armstrong is open deep every other play and he throws to his favorite targets (Moss, Cooley) anyway.
I'm not 100% sure who I think is at fault, but I don't think coaches need to change their whole system for a guy that isn't promised to be there more than a year. I think they should find the right players for their system and build from there. It's no secret Shanny likes to draft his QBs and develop them, and he will this year I'm sure. But we also need a RB, and short of signing S. Jackson this year, I'm not sure how they fill both holes in one offseason if they go QB early.

Can't we just find a coach who (a) knows how to coach and (b) doesn't make all of his players hate him immediately?
