Not that I believe this report but something tells me that both schools are wishing that the spotlight would dim a bit. Neither school is unique if these allegations are true. I believe it is common practice throughout the NCAA, but all of this attention is going to expose every wart. If I were a fan of either team, I would start doing my best clam impression and stop making allegations that will cause counter allegations. Their rivalry is going to blow up their programs.

Ahhh yes, but when a notorious Bama fan says on his radio show that he has tapes incriminating Auburn & Tennessee (Bama's biggest rivals...go figure) about the Cam Newton scandal, everyone takes it to the bank and national media outlets run with it. That guy's claims were, of course, debunked and he was fired from his radio station. I would hope Jeffrey Lee (the Auburn writer) realizes you can't make this claim without some way to back it up. So far he has nothing, but he just posted a new article today talking about some of the shadiness (nothing about $$$ though) and says he has another article coming later this week. Not sure what that one will say though. But honestly, the only way an article like this is going to come out is if it's from an Auburn affiliated writer. The REC runs the media in that state (and probably beyond) to the point where you're not going to see article after article going after Bama like you will the Auburn program.

Also for what it's worth, Bama looked into these claims last week and did their own internal investigation. And by investigation, I mean that they looked into it for 36 hours and found no wrongdoing. Amazing, they can't even spell Mississippi correctly (twice!) or even the city they live in, but they can conduct an pretty substantial investigation in a day and a half. Well done.

But seriously, my feeling is that nothing will come of this. Calloway's recruitment was interesting/shady on both sides, and as JDubs said, getting into a war like this will destroy both programs. Because if you don't think this happens everywhere (especially in the SEC), you're crazy. JLee needs to just drop it, otherwise Bama and the REC will unleash hell on Auburn and it'll continue to escalate from there. (By the way, JLee has already been threatened that if he continues with this, there will be repercussions.)

You won't find me defending Scott Moore. Dude is a Jeff Lee-esque loon. Lee's new article today basically insinuates that his foster father insisted that he go to Alabama. That's it. It doesn't even appear there's a violation in there. Further, his two sources of information, John Stancil, who Finebaum referred to as a rabid Auburn fan, and Calloway's high school coach Doug Goodwin, a 1984 Auburn grad, are biased.

As for Bama's investigation. They addressed the issue head on, which the NCAA takes into account and cleared it immediately. It doesn't take a bunch of rocket scientists to be able to interview a few people and call to a bank to see when a mortgage was paid off. Hell, you don't even have to know how to spell.

Ahhhhhhh, the all powerful REC. Waiting for that gem to be dropped. Does the REC control the national media too? Because it hasn't been the state media or even UA going after Auburn (other than Scott Moore who as I previously stated is a Jeff Lee-esque loon).

What you fail to note is that Alabama has nothing to do with the accusations leveled at Auburn unless you believe the ridiculous REC garbage. It's all MSU and national media. Jeff Lee is an Auburn stooge leveling accusations at Bama.

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but it is interesting how baseball players can enter the draft, be selected, have an agent negotiate for them, and then can go back for their senior year if an agreement isn't worked out.

Actually, baseball players most certainly cannot do this. They would be ruled ineligible by the joke that is the NCAA. They can have an advisor during negotiations, but are expressly prohibited from having the advisor participate in direct conversations with the drafting team.

NCAA is also very quick to punish baseball players for any perceived recruiting violations, while football and basketball players and coaches routinely get slaps on the wrist or drawn out investigations so as not to disturb the season. Sickening double-standards.

I know they can't technically have an agent, but I'm guessing the advisor plays a rather big role in the negotiations when it comes to the 1st round picks and potential over-slot guys even if they have to be work around the rules.

Regardless, it's a lot different than with football and basketball players who are considering going pro while they still have eligibility.

One freshman was suspended this year because it got back to the NCAA that a representative of the drafting organization ran into the advisor at a tournament this past summer and asked him when the drafted player was throwing. That's it. "When is Player X throwing this weekend." For that exchange, the player was forced to sit out the first half of the season.
