I also wonder if the uptick in conversation here is drawing attention that *something* is about to happen.

To be fair, he's not exactly wrong. Robb himself is kinda boring. He's got great qualities as a king, mainly his personable attitude towards everyone under him (the "respect them, they'll respect you, but don't let them disrespect you either" quality he got from his father) and his brilliant tactical mind (which is one of the only reasons he's lasted this long, that the fact the Lannister forces are fighting on multiple fronts). But he's also just like his dad that he's "honor above reason" which is exactly what screws him. But beyond having the balls to go along with his bannermen and declare himself King of the North, he's been kind of a drab personality from the get go.
Though you're right, his storyline is about to get a whole lot more interesting. And in hindsight, his character will look a lot better. He screwed up, yes, but it did not deserve such an epic double cross and massacre.

It just occurred to me though that the whole honor above reason thing was a lot more obvious in the book, since Robb married Jeyne Westerling because of the heat of the moment sex they had when he was grieving. With Talisa its more like heart above honor and/or reason. If it was known for a fact that Ned fathered Jon Snow that would be a pretty accurate parallel.

FFS. I just now realized the whole Jayne/Talisa thing. I hate hate hate when they do this. When Talisa and Robb first got together I was subconsciously asking questions about her House, but all of that is crap now. She's from Volantis?
Stick with the ******* book.

I touched on this earlier, but I understand a change if they're going to go with the same "it was a setup" plot from the books. That little revelation strained my willing suspension of disbelief when I read the books, along with the revelation that Littlefinger coaxed Lysa in to poisoning Jon Arryn. It barely got by me in book form, I can only iagine the average TV viewer's reaction to finding out everything's convolutedly plotted like that. Well, in that case, they got the entire family/House to play along in a gamble. I'd have a much better time, in the TV medium that Talisa was a spy that basically hit the jackpot when Robb took an interest in her.
Yeah, I'll totally agree with you there. He has his moments, but for the most part he's got the same problem that TV Jon Snow has. Dour dour dour. Which is why I'm really enjoying the time we get with him and Ygritte. She spends half her time making fun of his stoicism.

LOL. Elbren's gonna be changing his tune about Robb soon enough, huh?

The show is playing the unknown audience like a lute. Did you hear the "uplifting hope" music that was playing at the end of the Hound/Arya scene? I do believe that the more savvy of them will realize that the next episode is number 9 and that's been the "stuff REALLY goes down" episode in 1 and 2, so they'll be looking for something, but it's so hard to see the Red Wedding coming.

Yeah they are really keeping this low key, I'm guessing they are are going to leave out the part of Robb naming Jon his heir if something bad were to happen. I think it was a good idea to have Cersei explain the Rains of Castamere to Margarey gives the viewers a little more info.

Got some nice foreshadowing from Stannis when he was talking about a big battle in the snow.

My wife reminded me last night as we were watching the Hound and Arya that I told her "don't get too attached to anyone named Stark." I forgot I had told her that entirely, so I couldn't help but laugh. I did then tell her "well, keep in mind I didn't tell you which ones specifically."
She also made a quick comment about Gendry and how really, all Robert ended up having were bastards and that should account for something, and in telling her that they usually do have to be legitimized for any sort of heir rights, but especially in that situation. In doing so I almost let it slip that Stannis offers Jon legitimization. Geez, what a grab bag of spoilers that would be. "Wait, why do Stannis and Jon even meet? Isn't Jon with the wildlings right now anyway? Does that mean..." etc and so forth.
