That's the one. I was going to mention it, but this being the spoilers-free thread now, didn't want to if it hadn't been said on the show.A Lannister always pays his debts?
I feel bad about hijacking gurgi's other thread, so I figured I would follow Lex's lead and start a separate thread. I hope there is no ill will, gurgi. I didn't want to add to board clutter at first, but I decided this would be easier, especially considering this is a minor forum.
This thread is meant to only contain comments that reference plot up to the most recent HBO episode release.
The beginning of this thread essentially starts at post #94 of this thread: http://forum.orioleshangout.com/foru...ing-quot/page2.
I just re-watched the last two episodes and have a couple of thoughts:
-Viserys says you need love, fear, or wealth to lead. A fight for the crown seems imminent. The Dothraki/Dany have fear. The Lannisters have wealth. Where is the love? Robert seems more inclined towards the fear side of things. A Stark? Greyjoy? One of the other Baratheon boys, perhaps?
-Littlefinger/Carcetti and Varys are both intent on out-intriguing one another, and supplying info when it suits them, but what exactly is their endgame?
I still can't figure Littlefinger out. He obviously has some good intentions towards Lady Catelyn Stark but is in expense of her husband? So far it seems like he's trying to help Ned, but I
m not sure of his true intentions yet. Varys I think showed his true colors when he was heard by Arya conspiring in the dungeon.
BTW, the seen where Lady Catelyn's sister is breast feeding her what look like ten year old son was pretty creepy. Usually I'm not against boobs being shown in a show but I'm calling foul on that one.
BTW, Peter Dinklage is just amazing in this series. His character is the best on the show...
I agree with both posts, especially about Dinklage's performance. He has been the most fun character in the show to date. I really don't like the fact that Jon Snow has been absent from the last 2 episodes either as he is one of the more honorable characters in a show full of dishonorable scum! I swear if these people where real and in my life I have no clue who I would trust if any! Hell I don't trust Greyjoy, Baelish, any of the Lannisters, including Tyrion and I have my doubts about Baratheon, his brother and even Mormont. The only characters I feel are justified, to this point, in their actions are the Starks, Daenerys and Khal Drogo (He hasn't done much but it is obvious he is of a singular mind with no sneakiness or deceit in his being.).
By the way, this makes the show that much better, not being able to pigeon hold the characters.
I don't know if I can trust Tyrion, but I think he's going to end up a good guy, or at least as good as a whoring imp can be.I haven't seen the latest episode yet by Daenerys looks like she's gone mad in the preview. I can't wait for her to just have her brother killed. It's gotta happen eventually...
So episode 7 reminds me of why I greatly prefer to watch shows after the season is over so I can knock out as many episodes in a row as I like and don't get stuck at a cliffhanger.
Not a good episode for Ned.
Just watched it last night. Wow. What an episode.
Revealing his hand to Cersei was about the stupidest thing Ned could have done. I don't get it. Can't you be honorable and still keep your mouth shut? He really thought she might just take off to avoid 'Robert's wrath?"
The Littlefinger sexposition scene was unneccesary, I thought, but it was a certainly fun to watch. I had openly wondered about his endgame, now its clear. Does he actually think he still has a chance with Catelyn, though? Straight up revenge against the Starks is motive enough, I suppose.
I liked seeing Drago all fired up and showing emotion.
The Tywin/Jamie scene at the beginning of the episode was great and pretty revealing. Skinning a stag was so over the top though. It reminded me of the terrible ending to The Departed where the rat runs away on the ledge. Don't beat us over the head with that stuff.
No doubt. Ned is an honorable guy, but he really needs to play the game a little better. He seems to just think everyone will be as honorable as him but it just cost him. As for Drogo, I think I'm pulling for him. That was an epic "Braveheart" speech! Next weeks episode looks pretty good though. Can't wait to see how the Stark's bounce back...or IF they bounce back.
I knew you could not trust Carcetti!![]()
Ned's problem is that he isn't TRYING to play the game, or rather, he doesn't see it as a game in any sense. He has no ruling aspirations of his own, so he doesn't think in the terms that others have. He never even expected to rule Winterfell, that was going to be Brandon. They maybe shoulda had him have some dialogue that went in to that, though it doesn't really change how you view his character overall. Just why he seems to obtuse to the political backstabbing.
