Sounds like the talk of him going off to be a doctor right now was probably a negotiation tactic. Clever.

The Orioles have come to terms with their 10th-round draft pick, University of Virginia right-handed pitcher Tyler Wilson. He went 10-0 with an ERA of 2.24 this year as a senior for a Cavalier team that made the College World Series.

The Orioles have now signed six of their top 10 picks getting pitchers Mike Wright (round three), Kyle Simon (round four), Matt Taylor (round five), Trent Howard (round seven) and Devin Jones (round nine) along with Wilson. They have come to terms with 15 picks overall.

Believe that was Wilson's teammate, Danny Hultzen.

Both of them actually. With Hultzen there is supposedly a rather large trust that would trigger if he graduates med school.

Well, he can't be getting much over slot or this deal wouldn't be announced. Not that Baltimore should be paying crazy overslot for a long man type. Solid get for Baltimore in the tenth.

Wow, totally missed the Dr. Wilson talk. He's graduated, so his only leverage was a graduate program I guess. I think this deal is probably close to slot.

Ok, so the the MLBTradeRumors site has a link for Wilson and it takes you to a stat page that shows him being drafted by the Red Sox in 2008 and actually playing for their teams in 2009-2011. How exactly does that work or is that an error on their part? I have never heard of a kid getting drafted and being eligible for both college and minor league ball so I am going to assume an error.

Different Tyler Wilson. Red Sox Wilson went to HS in Georgia. UVA Wilson went to HS in Virginia.

Loving his numbers so far. Particularly the 4 walks in 30 innings. Has anyone seen his starts at Aberdeen?

He didn't start at home before I had to stop covering the team to go back to school, unfortunately. I talked to him briefly and he's a really nice guy who seems to have a good mind for pitching, for what that's worth.
