Why is it a foregone conclusion that he's a reliever?
Were the 14 games started this season or college career? 2010, he was a reliever.

This season. He was a reliever the previous three years and was successful, but was also excellent in the rotation this year.

Agreed. Obviously he has been successful as a starter this year, and I think he has the makeup to be a starter in the pros. But I will be the first to admit that I do not have nearly the refined eye that some of our experts do.

Yeah, he has been successful in both roles, so there is some versatility there. He commands his fastball and from what I have seen, he has a very good curve. Not sure of his other pitches though. I would love to see him have a few more MPH on the fastball, but if he did, he probably would have been around in the 10th round.

Midlothian alumnus Tyler Wilson took a perfect game into the sixth inning and John Hicks (Goochland) had an RBI and a run scored to lead Virginia to a 3-2 win over Miami in an ACC game Saturday.

Wilson allowed a hit to Shane Rowland in the sixth and a walk in the eighth and struck out 11. Keith Werman had two hits and an RBI for the Cavaliers as well.

Had to earn a spot in Cavs rotation. Conversion to starting this season has been excellent. Unclear whether JJ views him as a starter or reliever going forward. Could move quickly in the bullpen, but is an intriguing option as a starter. I like this pick.

He won the regional championship game for Virginia last sunday, going 6.1 IP with 7 Ks and 1 BB, allowing just one run. Great K/BB ratio, though some due to deception. He's a name to watch.

I have to say, I think I'd prefer him to be used in the pen. His arm has now been stretched out some, so he should be able to go multiple innings. Has major college experience. Has been used as a reliever before, and knows what is necessary to get up and be mentally prepared to come into games.
I'd be shocked if he made it to the majors as a starter, but has enough command to fill a middle-reliever role, or long man. I just can't imagine him getting out major leaguers twice in one night.

    Let's start calling him "Tyler"

I know the Scouting Bureau has his name listed as Philip Wilson (which is his given name). But he goes by Tyler Wilson, and when you see him on TV this June he will be referred to as Tyler Wilson.

    That is all...

And really that's all Joe Jordan needed to know. He rarely passes on guys named Tyler.

Well they just sound like better baseball players. Unlike guys named Hayden.

We should be paying special attention to this game for a few reasons.

    1. Our draft pick is pitching for UVA.
    2. Pitching for Cal is our 6th round draft pick from last year that did not sign.
    3. Anderson got drafted by the Nats this year. (lower than last year btw)

If you aren't rooting for UVA this game you are not an Orioles fan.

Tyler Wilson is dealing right now. Location has been outstanding.
Through 5 innings, he has allowed two hits, no walks and struck out 4.
