Good luck to him...........not sure what his number was, but certainly more than the O's were offering.

    Go Terps!

Good move for him! After watching him play thi ssummer for Youse's orioles it is evident he has talent but needs more development time. The Orioles could not offer him enough money to offset his attending UMD.

UMD is getting a great player who will help the Terps a lot and after playing in the ACC he is going to increase his value. I really like seeing in-state baseball talent heading to Terpville!

Wondering if the Orioles were going to offer Sander Beck enough money to forgo his senior year?? He has had a great summer for Youse's on the mound.

Based on my 'inside information' I doubt that will happen. He has been great this summer though and if this improved command he has shown this summer carries through into the numbers he puts up next year I could see him going 15 to 20 rounds higher considering he will be a young seniuor at 21 years old next year and should be an easy sign then. So yea, he plans on heading back to college for his senior year based on what I know and I don't expect the Orioles to offer him any amount of money that would change his mind

Kind of figured that as he is a good student and his parents probably want him to finish his degree before entering pro ball. I agree if he can keep the same command he has exhibited during the past two summers he could be a real factor this season for the Terps.
He probably will bump down to the #2 starter when Harman returns which may take some pressure off and hopefully the freshman with a years experience will produce some more offense for the guys on the hill.

Exactly, and I'm very excited to see what the terps can do next year. they have a great recruiting class coming in imo (although it probably doesn't compare with what unc, virginia, miami have coming in). But still this is definitely a program on the rise. I could see them goin 500 in conference and could have an outside shot at getting in to the tournament. Definitely looking forward to following the team and some of the guys I know that will be playing for them.

    BA cites Hockaday

For what it's worth, I wish the O's had signed more bats like Hockaday, Coats, Matthews and Roney...

I am very disappointed that a BA writer used the term "base clogger".
