Looks like FA may kick off within 10 days

With the optomistic end to the lock-out, what are you expecting the Redskins to do in FA? And what would you prefer them to do?

They need a quality QB. Unfortunately, I tuned out of the offseason due to the labor deal so I don't know who's available, but if it's Grossman or Beck to start the year, I'll be very disappointed.

I'm actually getting on the Beck train. He was a 2nd rounder, has done his time in the system to learn things, and Shanny is a big supporter, so I'm going to give him the blind faith for a year. Either he's going to prove to be a super value pickup or a bust and we get another QB next year. Grossman is the perfect backup for us right now, and if he's cool with that I'm glad to have him.

It'd be cool to have Nmandi.

As far as the Redskins and FA...my official stance is "Whatever."

Sign another WR to go with Anthony and Moss and let the young guys ease their way in.
    Resign Brown.
Sign a G and C or move Montgomery to C and sign at least one G.
Sign a starting CB to pair with Hall, not a huge risk taker kinda guy though, just a solid CB that can actually catch.
Sign a pure NT, we should be fine at end, I don't get why people want to sign 5 DL every season, I thought Carriker, and some of the other guys did a good job last year.
Resign Grossman, good backup for our system.
Give Beck a shot to prove he's the guy, or he's not the guy so we can replace him next season.
Trade McNugget and Haynesworth-less to free up the roster spots for people who want to be here.

Nice list. I'll address the first point later.

Brown needs to be resigned in that time frame when teams can negotiate with their own FAs. He and Moss should be priorities there.

My feeling is that you'll see Montgomery at C, Lichtensteiger at LG, and a FA at RG. Davin Joseph (TB) or Harvey Dahl (ATL) could see a big Snyder paycheck.

I agree that Rogers will be gone. I'd like to see them sign Joseph (CIN) to pair with Hall. I believe they'll end up with Buchanon and Barnes as their 2nd and 3rd corner. But that would make that position somewhat thin. Wouldn't be surprised if next year's first rounder is used on a corner if Beck has a breakout year.

As far as NT, who? With Kris Jenkins retiring, I'm not sure who's really out there. They may have to use a rotation of Bryant, Nield, and Jarvis Jenkins. I hope they sign Cullen Jenkins, start him with Carriker, and have Jarvis Jenkins and Jeremy Jarmon as the backups. I'd look for Golsten to move on to a team that runs a 4-3.

    Agree with the QB situation.

I keep reading about how there is no interest in McNabb. I really doubt that. There are more teams that need QBs for next season than there are available QBs. Once the Kolb gets traded and Hasselbeck is signed, McNabb will find a spot. I still think it'll be Minnesota or Miami.

If I'm a team like the Titans, I go to the Eagles and ask them if they'd give me something good if I had Haynesworth. If you could get a hypothetical worked out, I'd then go to the Redskins and offer them a 6th rounder for him and then flip him to Philly.

I can't get on board with the WR signing, especially if Moss is signed. There are a bunch of young guys who could be promising: Hankerson, Robinson, Austin, Banks, Paul, and even Kelly and not enough spots for them. I'd rather use that money for other needs.

I think Joseph would be a good fit and match for Hall, so would Ike Taylor I think.

I look for them to make a run at Franklin from SF for NT. Doesn't have to be a pro bowl player, just a guy that can actually play NT.

By my count there are MIA, MIN, TEN and AZ in serious need at QB, without injuries, and Hasselbeck, VY and Kolb as the only veteran starting options. I see McNabb going somewhere, just don't know where.

I don't care what we get for Haynesworth, we can cut him and save money this year, but getting a draft pick in addition to that would be nice.

The WR thing I've gone back and forth on, but I'm pretty sure people are overrating the young guys. Last year we were horrible after Moss and Armstrong, and Austin couldn't do enough to earn a bigger role, so I doubt he does it now. Banks is a ST player, I wouldn't waste him out in the field and risk more injury. Kelly will be cut, I'm pretty sure. If Hankerson or Paul were good enough to earn major 3rd WR minutes as rookies they wouldn't have gone where they did in the draft. So I can see them adding a 3rd WR and letting the young ones earn their spots.

Considering I think the playoffs are a long shot regardless of what they do in free agency, I'd go with the young WR's.

Here's where I am with the WR in regards to bringing in a FA...

If you want to keep Banks on the squad (which I don't think is a certainty), and you add a FA, then you are down to a maximum of 2 roster spots for 5 guys (Hankerson, Paul, Robinson, Kelly, and Austin). I think there's some merit in saying that the fanbase can overrate these guys (see Marko Mitchell). I think I'm much higher on Hankerson than you are. He slipped in the draft, but most publications had him as a second rounder and say that the Skins got good value in that 3rd round pick. Also, I think that they'll give Kelly every opportunity to show he's healthy this season. The coaches really talked him up last summer during OTAs (now that could have been served as motivation for D Thomas, who knows).
With the new kick-off rules, Banks loses some of his worth. He can't do coverage like Robinson, Armstrong, and Paul could. Also, while they went with 6 receivers last season, there's a chance that they fall back to 5 and carry an extra lineman. I see them going with Moss, Armstrong, Hankerson, Kelly, Paul, and Banks. Although I love the highlights I've seen of Robinson.

You are totally right in the sense that Banks might not make the team, but that depends on how he looks after an offseason of recovery. If he's back to his old self from early season, you have to keep him. Guys like him are going to still have jobs in the NFL, an explosive elite KR/PR can really be a difference maker, BUT if he looks more like he did after the injury, he's league average, and that we don't need. In that case I might keep Austin over him like you said, he can do more than just return.

I'm fine with 2 spots for the rest. If Kelly can EARN a spot over those guys, so be it, but I'm not handing a spot to any of them, let them show they deserve it and can really contribute or off with them. Aside from Moss (and I only say that cause he was a good fit at the X in this system) and Armstrong (home run deep threat every team needs) I'm not giving a spot to anyone who doesn't outplay everyone else. If that means only 2 of them make the team, so be it, but I see them keeping 6 honestly. Too many injuries through the year at WR where you need 3 healthy guys.

I dunno, that last roster crunch is going to be interesting, especially when you think Torain, Helu, and K. Williams are your 3 RB, you need more depth there too, plus a FB. You have a bunch of DL too. There are going to be some interesting cuts at LB, RB, and WR this year I think.

Looks like the Skins are bringing back Blades. And Perry is running with the ones. I still think Henson will have an impact.

Gotta get the RT situation addressed.
