If you guys are Gosling fans, Which i see a lot of you are then you have to go pick up The Believer. His best role in my opinion. Great movie!
The wife and I watched Drive last night. It was good but I think it fell way short of the hype it got here. A 15-minute standing ovation?!?! I don't get it...
I saw it on the big screen. Didn't like it. Didn't see much acting in it. I know that might have be the character but it was not enjoyable or intriguing to watch IMO. I like Fracture much better. And Gosling was much better in Crazy, Stupid Love. He actually acted in that movie. I liked him is Blue Valentine and Notebook.
Thought the initial chase scene was fantastic. I also liked the robbery scenes where instead of being with the action, you're witnessing everything from the driver's perspective. The lack of information about what is happening inside made for good suspense. It was interesting that you learned more about the plot and characters from the background music's lyrics than you did from actual dialog. Also, Albert Brooks is the man.
B+
(Don't see the Tarantino connections at all)
Watched it a second time last night...still holds up. I lowered my praise a bit after a second viewing but the movie is still completely kick ass and Gosling owns it.
Yeah, I am in the minority here, but I thought this movie was terrible.
The violence was ridiculous. I found none of the characters interesting. There was nothing that kept me engaged after the initial sequence in the movie.
I'll probably have to do that. I thought it was going to be a fun action movie, and I certainly wouldnt call it that.
Do you think it was a bit ridiculous to literally show a woman getting her head blown of by a shot gun? Or him literally stomping THROUGH a guys face? For whatever reason I just didn't buy him as a bad ass type
Yes, I think it was ridiculous because it was Christina Hendricks. I don't think she had enough screen time, and was wearing too many clothes.
The movie is based on a book, which I read, and the hero is an existential character. I'll let Lucky Jim get into that more, since he's more prepared academically to discuss it, but every thing the movie did was necessary and required to produce the desired outcome. The filmmakers didn't set out to make an action movie that Paul Walker would star in. They went out of their way to avoid it and thats one of the many reasons I love it.

I guess the wway the trailer looked to me, it certainly looked like it had more action and suspense in it.

I think all the action in the movie is pretty much in this trailer.
