Despite other reports, PWInsider reports that the cryptic promos airing for January 2012 are meant for Chris Jericho.
News came out last week that talks fell through between WWE and Jericho. Also, Jericho recently said he would never wrestle for WWE again and when asked what he would be doing in January, he said working in Hawaii.
Word is that the deal between WWE and Jericho is not done yet but Vince McMahon wanted to get it out there now. WWE officials want Jericho on the RAW brand to help boost ratings

Yeah I figured they were going to do Kane as the masked monster again and have Kane/Taker #47 at WM. In order to sell the streak is on the line, they'd have to build Kane as being unstoppable first, which means he'd have to run over Big Show and Henry to have any serious credibility. WWE = Predictable.
I think it'd be cooler if they brought up a new young big guy and made him a new version of Kane, like the Mask has all the power. Make him destroy everyone and then Taker put a stop to it at WM (or put the new guy over finally ending the streak and passing the torch, but I can't see that happening). In hindsight they should have done that with Mason Ryan, or maybe signed Matt Morgan back and done it with him.

Yeah that's not a bad idea either.
ORRRRR
An interesting storyline would be that the Mask takes over the person. So have it bounce from person to person, taking over and making them indestructible while they have it. Like the Mask has a mind of it's own and keeps working it's way up the food chain. Maybe it starts with someone weaker, then gradually moves up, taking over guys that are already superstars making it that much more difficult to beat. Maybe there are multiple masks and it's like a zombie epidemic, in the end there are just a handfull of guys, good and bad left to try to fight of an entire legion of these mask wearing freaks.
It's a weird stretch, but it's something never been done before, so it wouldn't be bad just to mix everything up. Kind of like a better version of the whole Brood/Cult thing. It would give some of the guys a real chance to play up their acting abilities. Imagine Cena getting "taken over" and being one of the masses, and it comes down to like Orton/Taker/Kane/Punk/Dibiase against everyone else.
It'd have to be a shorter term thing, but I think it'd be cool to see take shape over a 2-3 month window and then have one final PPV where they finally start unmasking guys and disposing of all the masks. Then in the end there's only ONE left, and it goes back to Kane.

I think that is part of the problem though, when we were all little it was all about not knowing any better and really believing these storylines. As we got older, we knew better and started to really see behind the curtain. Now they can only use the same cheesy storylines that we all see coming 6 miles away because we've seen every variation.
For it to be fun again, we kinda have to ignore the realism of it, and get back to it being a STORY. Make it over the top and cheesy and stupid, but I bet it'd be the most entertaining things have been in 10 years.
