    Future QB Thread

Well everyone knows Luck is almost a lock to be #1 overall, which means we probably have no shot at him, BUT, there have to be some other guys that are worth making the new franchise QB.

A guy I've got on my radar is Moore from BSU. 82% completion in week 1, and then 455 yards and 5 TD this week. I have a feeling he also goes in the top 5 and we probably don't get to pick there, but man does that kid look good. Poise, and major accuracy, not sure about his arm strength but I don't need that with 80% accuracy.

The kid from Baylor looks pretty good so far. I think I want Barkely the most but it would probably cost us a Jets/Browns type trade into the top 5.

What I was thinking is that there look to be 3-4 LEGIT potential stars in this draft class. That means with other teams having other needs, either the chance to trade up, or a QB dropping closer to us is a real possibility. Also, keep in mind early in the season Rodgers was one of if not, THE pick at QB, and for concerns about him being a system QB and other teams with needs, he fell that far. ONE MORE PICK, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. UGH.

Or, you know, they could have grabbed him at number nine instead of stone hands.

I'm looking forward to watching the ou qb tonight.

I, also, like Moore... however it seems the ESPN and other Sports TV pundits do not rate him as a potential first rounder. I am not sure why. I have attempted to why in some chats, but Kiper, etc... don't ever pick my question.

I like Moore. I hope he is another Steve Young type.

I think the big question is this. What type of quarterback would the Shanahan's want? Is Kellen Moore that type? IDK. I know Shanahan flourished with Elway, contended with Plummer, and drafted Cutler. That doesn't really give me a clear answer though.

I'm not sure either. I think he really likes accurate guys though, that was one reason Moore intrigued me. It's early in the season still, but if he stayed projected out of the first, or late first I think he'd be an AMAZING target to go for. Any kid that can throw to an 80% clip and still throw for 450 yards is a plus in my book. I like that he's a 4 year player too. Looks like there are going to be a bunch of good QB though, which is what I was wondering when they passed on so many this year.

Moore doesn't have the prototypical QB size that Luck has. Its not often you see a 6' or shorter QB drafted in the top 10. Thats probably the issue.

From an outsider's perspective it seems like Shanahan likes guys who can move around, and isn't terrified of the gunslinger mentality.

Yeah, that'll do it. He's listed at 6'1 and reminds me of Drew Brees. I'm good with that.

Good synopsis on Shanny. I don't think Cutler was real mobile, but he was a real gunslinger, more than Plummer.

So do you guys think Campbell would have flourished in Shanny's offense?

Nope. JC lacks the accuracy and awareness Shanahan requires.

Campbell wouldn't flourish in any offense.

I think they would have kept him if they thought he could. I wish jc all the best out in Oakland, but I'm glad they moved on from that era.

That would likely be too high of a cost imo. I agree with what he says at the end about waiting for a QB.

The team is getting to the point where the need at qb is far greater than the other holes. That could not be said the past few seasons. Upgrade a pass rush? Orakpo, Kerrigan, check. Upgrade the wr Corp? Presumably, check. Get younger and more versatile with the running backs? Check. Get a competent d-line, check.

With the additional picks from Campbell, mcnabb, and haynesworth, I'd explore dealing picks for luck or Bradford. Depending on how the rest of the season goes, they may not be in position to grab one of the other 3 qbs.
