Schaub wasn't backing up Jamarcus Russell and Marcus Randall for 2 years. Flynn had (slightly) better YPA and better TD/INT. But in college, the stats are so system dependent that I don't know how useful they are.

Thank you. I was trying to put something like this together... You summed up my thoughts very succinctly.

Well, the guy he couldn't beat out for his first 3 seasons did go number 1 overall in the draft. The year he did start, his team won the national championship.

He lead 4th quarter winning drives against Auburn and Alabama that year. He also blew out Miami in a bowl game his sophomore season when Russell was hurt.

You think and type faster than me.

I don't think fast. I just type fast...and occasionally something rational comes out. But my "batting average" is probably pretty low.

Schaub and Flynn are not comparable.

Didn't you just compare them at the top of the page?

Peyton to the AZ could make sense, ala Kurt Warner. I'm pretty sure they can get out of the Kolb contract too.

Indeed he did. But, I think he's saying that Flynn is not good enough to warrant being compared. Which, I completely disagree with.

Not without paying him the rest of the 21.5 mil that was guaranteed to him. I'm not sure how much of that has already been paid.

Peyton and Fitzgerald would form a pretty unstoppable duo.

Based on what? College stats that mean nothing? ACC QB v. SEC QB.

The comparisons start at the pro level. Both backed up very good starting QB until they hit FA. Both learned ins and outs of being a QB without learning on the job. Schaub went to HOU with Kyle and put up great numbers. Flynn...well he could have a shot at the same thing if he wants.

Someone is going to overpay for Flynn based on his performance in 2 NFL games. I'm comparing the skill level that both had in college. Flynn was drafted in the 7th round, and no he is not the next Tom Brady. Schaub was drafted in the 3rd round.

If it was strictly based on what conference they were in RG3 would be drafted ahead of Luck.

Someone was going to overpay for Flynn regardless if he started 0 games. UFA QB are going to get contracts somewhere, especially if they don't have a record to say they shouldn't (nevermind they don't have a record to say they should either). The NFL is a show me what you can do sport, and when you've shown you CAN'T do it, you're out, you WILL get a chance somewhere though.

You can't compare college skill level because a) most don't play a real defense all season, b) there are systems that are FAR more successful than the individual players in it, and c) I saw Schaub a lot in college, he wasn't that impressive, I'm amazed he's done as well as he has in the pros.
