    2011 GTP: Derrek Lee

Didn't do much for the Orioles other than play good defense and brought nothing in trade. However, the money freed up may have led the Orioles to sign Delmonico so maybe all was not lost.

I would give him a D. He showed flashes at times but was never consistent.

Had he stayed here and done for us what he did for Pitt, I would probably say C+/B-.

Couldn't get healthy and didn't produce at an adequate level defensively. I also expected him to be a bit more of a vocal presence in the clubhouse then was portrayed.

D seems to be the right grade for DLee.

Good defense, crappy offense and not much in return.

    C. Good defender, his offense was poor for the first two months, but he started to heat up before we traded him.

D in the four months he spent with us. I liked his defense, but he was a big disappointment with the bat. I suspect if we had held onto him he might have brought his grade up to a C, but we didn't.

I'm in the majority here. Thank goodness we came up sevens on the Hardy gamble. Health was never right here. D. As in D Lee.

    F - waste of a contract.

And the Orioles continue their streak of getting lousy production from 1B...

    I gave Lee a D as well.

Truthfully, I think I was a little bit hypocritical when it came to Lee. I was more than willing to give Mark Reynolds time to adjust to the league but didn't do the same for Lee.

I gave him a D, but could easily be an F. Consistently doused rallies from the 3-hole early on before he was moved down. A giant sucking sound in the heart of the order. Was OPSing under .600 as late as June 16. He didn't look terrible at the plate. He had what looked like a good approach. Was pretty selective up there. Swing looked pretty good. And regularly came up with bupkis. I kept thinking he was going to break out as April turned into May into June. Didn't happen.

D for me as well. My vote may be different if I thought age was a bigger factor, but his play in Pittsburgh showed it wasn't.
