    Edwin Jackson?

New to the board. While this may have been previously discussed, interested in your take as Jackson being a #2 or #3 starter? He intrigues me.

Not worth what it will take to bring him here.

Would you pay 3/24? I would. Or does he get more than that in this pitching-thin market?

    Thumbs up

I think Jackson will be in high demand and very expensive to sign with the O's. Much more than his value IMO. If we could get him for something like 3/30M I'd be OK with that, but I don't think we can. He has been worth 15M + the past three seasons, and I think that's where his asking price will begin. If he has a good WS he could be even costlier. Boston, MFY's and Texas, are sure to have an interest.

He will get way more than that. He will get 4-5 years from a contender.

As you said, its a pitching thin market and he is still relatively young.

I can't imagine Jackson getting 15m per year. No way I go close to that. I would go 3/30 given the market and our need for pitching. I'd look at Floyd and Nolasco as well via trade.

Then let them have him. If a team wants to go 5 years on him, I would not stand in their way. I would at least enter the derby although as previously referenced, his pricetag inevitably rises with each quality start he makes in the postseason.

That's the beauty of Dave Duncan. He's constantly turning these mediocre pitchers into Cy Young wannabe's. Edwin Jackson will likely be back to his old ways if he doesn't stay with the Cardinals all while being grossly overpaid.

Oh, cuz. But Dave Duncan didn't actually do anything to improve on Edwin's season. Basically continued the same season he was having in Chicago. But I agree, he'll get too many dollars.

I would go as high as 4/40 and maybe even a million or two over that. I would NOT go 5-years, however. If he'd be willing to sign a 3-year deal, I'd offer 3/33. I would love to pick him up and slot him in the 2 or 3 spot in the rotation.

It really depends on the team's budget for 2012 to what I would ultimately be comfortable offering Jackson. I want him, but I don't want him to be our clear-cut best pitching acquisition. If we got him, I would want another arm or equal or greater skill. Overall, I would prefer an ace, but I don't see that happening.

I would like to go hard after Jackson. I think he is a realistic target for the Orioles.

I'm not a big fan, but if you really want him, offer him 4 years and a NTC. He's only 28 years old and could be joining his 7th organization. Hell, he grew up in Germany until he was eight. If ever there was a guy who might sign for less just to have a little security, this is him. Go get him ___________ (unnamed and essentially powerless future GM).

Probably need to offer 5/60M to even get his attention.

FWIW he's been worth about $16MM per season over the last 3 years, and he's 28 years old. He eats up a lot of innings. Still, the max I'd be comfortable with would be 4, but there's a chance he'd be worth the contract he's looking at receiving.

MFY's, Sux, TEX, and Gnats will be after him among others.
