I went tonight for the first time in a long time. Last time I went, Dixon scored 35 in his first start ever. Had a blast tonight, guess I just got lucky with picking this game.
Some of my thoughts on the game:
Overall the Wiz didn't play all that well. Shot 38% from the field, allowed OKC to shoot 48%, shot selection was pretty average..just nothing about much of their play screamed victory.
They did, however, hustle their asses off, and hopefully they see that you don't have to shoot the best or be the most talented to win games. Simply outwork the other team and you can beat anyone. 19 offensive rebounds last night, which is awesome.
Speaking of offensive boards, JaVale had 6. Most of those were controlled tips back out to the top of the key, which JaVale has never really done before. It's almost like someone told him, "Hey, you know you're allowed to tip it, and you'll still get credit for the rebound if it's controlled?" It was basically all he was going for, and it seems to suit him very well. There are plenty of times he doesn't put himself in great position to secure a rebound, but he's always going to be able to out jump other guys, so just trying to get a hand on the ball could be very effective for him.
When John finds that perfect balance between crazy fast and under control, he's unstoppable.
Nick was pretty bad most of the game, but hit some really timely shots in the 4th and played good D on Durant. He said afterwards that taking a charge was what got him going, so hopefully the bulb went off in his head that putting some effort into that part of his game can be beneficial too.
For the most part, Jordan Crawford shouldn't shoot the ball. He seems to be pretty good and taking the ball to the basket, which I'd love to see him do more of, instead of his patented contested fadeaway. He had a good game though, played better D on Westbrook than Wall did. I think he's a complete wildcard, though, and the only thing I'm certain of is, no matter how good you think he is, he thinks he's better. Dude is not short on confidence.
I felt bad for Blatche. His shot selection is still vomit worthy, but he seems to really be trying to play team ball. He actually had a pretty solid overall game, but was booed all game, even when his name was called out before the game. Now, I've been a HUGE Blatche critic, but I'm not sure booing him like that can do anything to help the situation. He seemed a little bit gunshy eventually, passing up open shots because he didn't want the crowd to boo him. He just doesn't seem to be a guy with thick skin, so I'm going to try to support him more from here on out.
Somehow, I think Rashard Lewis is a 4 now. He has completely lost his perimeter shot, but can score in the post and has rebounded well. I was pretty shocked when he actually made a 3. His true shooting percentage has to be one of the worst in the NBA.
If Vesely is more than a foot or two from the basket, he is completely lost offensively. That said, he's got a knack for rebounding and seems to have excellent instincts overall. I think he's going to be a bit of a project, but I like what I see as a whole from him so far.
Has Wall made a 3 yet this year?
I found an accident in the box score for last night's game. It mistakenly showed the Wizards with more points than the other team. That can't be right, can it?
I witnessed it. I can verify that it was no accident.
I know as of a few games ago he hadn't and I can't recall him making any recently. Come to think of it, I can't even think of him attempting one in the last handful of games. Probably a good thing.
His jump shot is definitely a work in progress, but I think he's gaining some confidence with it. Once that improves and teams have to starting honoring his mid range game, things should really open up for him.
Haha, surprisingly, no. It was a weird game in which the Wizards used hustle and effort (what a concept!) to hang in the game, and then started to hit some shots in the 4th quarter to take over. The whole game felt to me like at some point OKC was going to go on a run and make it a 15 point game and that would be it. The Wiz just stayed close enough and then had a really good 4th.
It was bizarre.
Javale McGee runs back on defense while his team still has the ball:

Wittman has the Wizards playing half-decent basketball. I'm not sure what he's doing differently, but on most nights he's getting a decent effort.

The Bullets are having yet another rough season ........ most likely their 4th consecutive season of less than 30 wins.![]()
The Wiz beat Cleveland and confetti falls from the sky like they just won a playoff game or something. Priceless.

ROGER MASON, NICK YOUNG RALLY WIZARDS PAST LAKERS
Woo hoo.

We were down by 20 so I turned on NBA2k12 to take my frustrations out on the Lakers. Turned the game back on for a sec and we were down 2! That was so sweet to beat those overrated Lakers. The Wizards just double teamed and trapped Kobe while putting bodies on the bigs, hoping the other players wouldn't beat them, and they couldn't. Maybe a blue print to beat the Lakers? Kobe might turn back into 2005 Kobe which would be terrible for the Lakers.
