Yeah totally, we can break down individual people in individual ways, that wasn't really the point I was trying to make. But I see what you're saying here.
Slightly off topic, if you boss was arrested for smoking pot, is that a fireable offense? Is doing something against the law a fireable offense? Do you break the law? I bet you speed, should you be fired? Obviously different laws, different penalties. I know there are people I work with that smoke pot, should they be fired? Maybe if it's part of company policy. I just don't see all of these situations as unequivocally black and white.
The larger point is there is a zero sum game of talent out there. All I was trying to say is that I can't fault the Redskins for using that as part of the calculus moving forward. Their job is to win football games, not be the moral compass of the world. And if they feel like they can balance the two, I don't think that's wrong.
If my boss got arrested for smoking weed, he'd be fired quickly. Obviously it's not the case everywhere.
IMO, if I have someone in a position of immense responsibility - I'm firing him if he's knowingly breaking the law. To me, it shows bad judgment. Now obviously some common sense comes into play (like I don't count turning right on red after a rolling stop as fire able). And as you said, these situations certainly aren't black and white.
I don't think these players should be cut either. But, I do think that this proves that - without a doubt - they are complete, bumbling, irresponsible idiots (especially after hearing how dumb you have to be to fail the test once - let alone multiple times). These transgressions are nowhere near egregious enough to warrant a drastic move. Now if they get another suspension for the same thing, I may revisit that...
Don't worry if they get another positive test they are out for an entire year. Wouldn't have to worry about cutting them.

I heard this on ESPN 980 this weekend and I thought it was a pretty interesting question, which I'll pose to you guys and honestly other Redskin's fans.
Do you think these two guys were the only two guys in the entire league that have smoked pot through the season? Maybe they were and if you think about it in that context it's definitely stupid of them. But part of me has a really hard time believing these were the only 2 guys of 1700 NFL players that smoked pot through the whole entire season.
Of course not. But they were the only two stupid enough to (a) fail the initial test for recreational drugs that occurs at known times and (b) fail again once you are in the program and know you have to take more tests for recreational drugs. From a team perspective, that's a pretty tough combination to swallow since it impacts your ability to help your team.
