Might not be anything to it, but a mobile QB whose running is a huge part of his game + concussion = BAD news. Once you get that first concussion, the next ones come easier and easier. I've had like 6 since I got my first one in 10th grade. That's just the one injury that really worries me for football players. He gets hit hard one good time and he's out for a season just like that. I suppose you can say that about anyone, but after you are opened up to them nearly every head shot will = concussion. That worries me too much for a running QB. Cam Newton wouldn't be Cam Newton today if he had a concussion recently.
I like Luck (duh) and Barkley a lot though, and had Griffin up there with them til this week.
I don't recall concussions keeping any QB's from having a career. Yeah, they have shortened some careers like Aikman's, but I'm not sure of any that kept a promising QB from being nothing at all like you are saying.
Steve Young was a mobile QB that did alright I'd say despite concussions.
Concussions also don't typically knock a guy out for a season. That's very rare.
I agree that it would be better if it hadn't happened, but I disagree with your conclusions regarding the severity of the risk and the hypothetical effect on Cam Newton.
I truly feel sorry for you guys. I couldn't handle my football and baseball team both being terrible.
I'd probably take up ballroom dancing or play board games with kids in tight jeans. I'd be a different person.
