I put him on the top 30 list because there's a chance he could end up a left-handed reliever if he finds his command, but the guy didn't have good command in high school so there's nothing to suggest he's going to suddenly get it.

For years the Orioles have held onto guys like this until they have no value, and now they start to trade these guys for guys with major league value and it's all pitch forks and torches. Eveland's stuff last year graded out better than most of the Orioles starters last year. His fastball command was much better and he's added a cutter. He's not a star by any means, but he's much better than Reyes and Tillman, two guys who as it stands now are in the running for a rotation spot next year.

It's not a mind-blowing get the playoff tickets move, but I see no reason to be concerned over moving Martin for him.
    Thank you.

Maybe we had to trade two players for Eveland so that the McCourts could each get one.

I remember the game against Toronto a few years ago when he shut us out. Be nice to see more of that.

Still, I'm not going to crucify DD for getting the players his manager or coaches wanted. The only player I regret giving up is Miclat, as I think there's an outside chance he could become a regular ML 2B.
I could not agree more with this post. I definitely see what some are saying about the general principle of these deals, but these are not worth blowing a gasket over. The only player that I mind losing in these deals is Miclat as well.

Depends on your definition of a prospect. Miclat is the only guy I'm not happy about losing. BTW, who is the 4th guy? Maybe I'm missing some body here. I know that Henry and maybe Miclat went for Teagarden and that Martin went for Eveland. Who's the 4th?

We don't know yet. It's a PTBNL in the Eveland trade.

He's worth a C- level prospect like Martin in my opinion, even if he's major league depth.
His numbers weren't great in triple AAA last year. And he is 28.

But you have no problem going off on these childish rants where you call guys garbage and trash and everything else. By the way superstar, Eveland was in the major leagues at the same age of Martin.
I love it when we all get the Tony lecture. It's always so compelling!

I have seen Eveland pitch in the majors...He was actually pretty good in 2008. But he has had injury issues and has terrible stuff.

You talk about his improved stuff last year. He k'ed less than 5 per 9 IP in the NL WEST! His swingingstr% was 10%..it was 5% the year before!!!

For his career, he throws less than 60% of his pitches for strikes..the ML average is 63%.

He has had a BB rate of over in 6 different ML stints, although it was excellent last year.

LD% against him is higher than the ML average.

He does seem to get grounders though, I will give him that.

You do not trade value for this guy. You don't trade anything for him.

And what did we trade for Jo Jo Reyes Tony? When did we acqurie him? What were the circumstances? Where were we at in the season...Don't worry, I don't expect you to answer those because that will say why even bringing up in this conversation was so poor.

Original reports suggested a PTBNL too. If not, that helps. A little.

In 14.1 IP against the O's he hasn't allowed a run. Too bad he can't still pitch against the Orioles now that he's an Oriole.

I think we all need to calm down... This was a depth trade... nothing special. We gave up two players that most likely would of been cut by DD either after spring training or the draft. No big deal... carry on.
