That doesn't mean a prospect. Not that you said that but others have said we've given up 4 prospects for a back up catch and potential 5th starter. We've given up a C prospect in Henry, a C- in Henry, and maybe a C+ guy in Miclat, although that's not 100% yet.

Miclat is the only guy I'm not thrilled with losing because I see him as the classic utility guy.

I will keep an open mind about this. If things break right, Eveland could be in the 4th/5th spot in our rotation. It is more likely that he doesn't, but ends up a guy who is AAA depth and gets a call-up at some point when another starter falters or gets hurt.
    nevermind seeing the updates...sry

BTW, Eveland's velocity was down for the 5th straight season.

For years all we have heard is that we need better pitching, yes we have some good talent like arrieta, bmat, britton etc.. but when it comes to surrounding these guys at the MLB level we settle for low risk options, I'm so tired of that term "low risk".. if you want to compete we have to do better than this point blank

I hope he's not throwing BP.

OF Tyler Henson is PTBNL according to Britt and Roch.

Orioles also sending OF Tyler Henson to complete Eveland trade.

He doesn't repeat his mechanics well. I put him on the top 30 list because there's a chance he could end up a left-handed reliever if he finds his command, but the guy didn't have good command in high school so there's nothing to suggest he's going to suddenly get it.

For years the Orioles have held onto guys like this until they have no value, and now they start to trade these guys for guys with major league value and it's all pitch forks and torches. Eveland's stuff last year graded out better than most of the Orioles starters last year. His fastball command was much better and he's added a cutter. He's not a star by any means, but he's much better than Reyes and Tillman, two guys who as it stands now are in the running for a rotation spot next year.

It's not a mind-blowing get the playoff tickets move, but I see no reason to be concerned over moving Martin for him.

Tony, I respect your opinion and I see why DD is making these deals. I just do not like giving up players with upside for guys who have a history of poor numbers at the ML level. If Eveland pitches well than we could easily trade him for more than what we gave up. We have Guthrie and Britton as probable locks to start the season in the rotation. In Baltimore Arrieta may also be a lock, but he shouldn't be. My issue is that we are picking up all of these back-end type guys when we really do need front-end type guys.

I know that teams need depth it just always seems like we are trying to build around depth when are starters are not good. If we are saving money to make other moves than great, but if this is all we are going to do than why bother?

Maybe we flip him after he pitches in our first inter squad game? I'm sure his value will be at it's peak.

But you have no problem going off on these childish rants where you call guys garbage and trash and everything else. By the way superstar, Eveland was in the major leagues at the same age of Martin.
WOW. I am rolling on the floor... definitely not getting any work done.

Do you recall if DD shipped out a lot of fringe type prospects that he determined probably wouldn't make it to the bigs?

Let me see if I have this straight. We traded a guy who just made the top 30 list for a minor league system rated well below average for a pitcher who could be our 5th starter and some people are screaming like their hair is on fire. Makes sense.
