Toronto has been very active, mostly on small deals but they did acquire a relatively cheap closer who they can control for several years. I don't know much about Nestor Molina, but he must be pretty highly regarded to bring Santos to the Jays.
I'm not sure I like the Jaso for Lueke trade, from Tampa's standpoint. I really like the Moore deal.
Boston and NY haven't really done anything, except that the Yankees defintely did what they had to do and extended Sabathia. They played good defense on that one, I will admit.
All in all, it's awfully quiet in the AL East.....

Frobby - an overwhelming amount of time I agree with you except now. The problem with this premise is that we are competitive with them. We are not, thus need to do more..saying that, I believe our appearance of aggressiveness with int'l, scouts, etc. may prove to be better than what we could have acquired.
The key point here, is that most teams are doing what the Orioles are doing this early in the offseason. The Pujols, Wilson, Reyes, et. al. type of adventures are not the norm.
I for one am not going to freak out this early.
The Yanks also resigned Freddy Garcia.
NY: Spent 400+ million on pitching in the few years
BOS: Spent 300 million last year
TAM: Built the best farm system in the league
TOR: Become possibly the best talent acquisition team through trades in the last two years
Saying no one has done much still puts us light years behind them. We can say slow and steady is the best organization building technique, but three of these teams don't do that and they are way ahead of us.
I'd still be happy with Cespedes and Yu.
The Rays also extended Matt Moore today.
DD has been on the job just over a month now (with thanksgiving thrown in between)....gotta think he is behind the typical pace of the offseason as a GM. The Orioles barely added a couple of FO pieces in the last week. Thinking January is going to be a much more productive month for the Orioles offseason.
Agree with Rochester about the Orioles Int'l aggressiveness....looking forward to see how Cespedes and Darvish play out.
Didn't the Yankees sign Nakajima?
Kimball back with Washington.
I take issue including the exercising options bit. I mean that really isn't activity so much as it is going through the motions. Those moves basically amount to the FO's saying "yes" or "no".
Your premise is correct, we can not use the lack of overall activity as an excuse for ours. I would contend that the Orioles have been active, but those activities have not born fruit as of yet.
My guess is by the end of next week you'll be able to add Darvish's posting victory to one of the AL East teams (and it won't be us or Tampa)...
